2mil for the guy who is centering our very effective third line? I'll take that all day. If he hit FA he probably could have gotten at least another 500K. He's an important guy on this team on an off the ice.

A good bridge contract....And in a few years if he still plays well, then you can ink him to a longer contract...way to go Stan!

I clearly get your sarcasm....however....

we also have Kruger and Pirri to resign.....not to mention others....

- ChicagoDave

Kruger is signed thru 2014-15, and Pirri is an RFA with minimal NHL success/experience. $2.0 (if accurate) is a steal for Shaw.

Kruger is signed through next season and Pirri is coming off an ELC. Anyone else that might make more than 1.5 is already locked up through at least next season as well. This offseason will be finding a backup goalie (whether its Raanta or someone else) and extending Kane/Toews.

This sucks; we'll never be able to sign Toews and Kane...

I posted this a couple of blogs ago: my take on what the total cap hit for the Hawks could be in 2015-2016, after the Toews / Kane new contracts take effect:

Since I have no life, how's this for a cap calculation for 2015-2016 (and I'm sure everyone will jump all over my errors):

Kane - 9,000
Toews - 9,000
Sharp - 5,900
Hossa - 5,275
Bickell - 4,000
Kruger - 2,500
Saad - 2,500
Morin - 1,250
Pirri - 1,250
Shaw - 2,000
Bollig - 750
Smith - 750
Mills - 750
One - 1,000
14 Forwards = 45,925

Seabrook - 5,800
Keith - 5,538
HJ - 4,100
Leddy - 3,000
Kostka - 1,000
Clendenning - 750
One - 750
7 Defensemen = 20,938

Crawford - 6,000
One = 1,000
2 Goalies = 7,000

23 players = 73,863

Am I dramatically off anywhere?

You're worried about a guy who has barely even established himself in the NHL?

Still time on Krugman, and if he doesn't score more there won't be a big market for him. Or he will be replaced by Denault.

well then I stand corrected.....however, in a year, you need to re-sign

Saad (big raise coming)

Kruger (decent raise coming)

Bollig (small raise, if anything)

I hope they know what they are doing and have enough to give Kane and Toews 8.75-9m each

I am not certain the cap will be much over $70MM for that season. I'm thinking more like $67-70-73 over the next three years. 5% year over year growth is more reasonable to project.

And he can play them all at the same time - only need 3 other skaters when he's on the ice.

Here's hoping that the cap is a little higher in 2015 ($76mil wishfully.). If Oduya is still playing well and we don't have younger guys ready he might be a good resign. I'm pretty sure he'll be around 35 then? He'll probably be a little cheaper then.

I think you're spot on with you're numbers although we'll probably carry one less forward and have to pay a backup goalie a little more.

The last CBA, the HRR increased by an average of 7% each year.

If that holds true: $64 - 68.5 - 73.2.

I don't see much of a raise for Kruger coming unless he puts up more points. His current contract is pretty good for a third/fourth line PP guy. The Hawks will not pay much more for that role. Saad will get a raise, but is an RFA who will likely sign a bridge deal like Shaw/Kruger/Leddy did.

The Hawks have shown over the past few years that they know how to manage the cap. I am personally not worried about the cap.

But the split is now capped at 50/50. Gonna be close. Anyone hear who with and/or what the amount of the Canadian TV deal with the league ended up being? That would be a big factor.

I think this year is artificially low and the growth will be larger than that. Most importantly, we don't have the same info as the teams; and they are spending like they believe it will grow a little more than that. And they do have a good idea where it is going.

I think Bollig is among a few players who can fight and not embarrass the team with his play otherwise. He'll get a raise, but I would figure that Bollig will get less that a million per season.

I've read speculation in places that the cap will be back at what it was before this season, at about $70 million.

Plus I think we might see a bigger increase this offseason since the cap was artificially lowered to 64 if I'm remembering that right.

Bruce Garrioch, Ottawa Sun reporting on 11/9:

"NHL commissioner Gary Bettman would like to have all the TV deals in place with the major networks — CBC, TSN, RDS and Sportsnet — by next month’s board of governors meetings. With the current deal of $185 million expiring, a league source said Bettman is determined to double the TV money to the $400-million range. The deal is expected to keep Hockey Night in Canada in its current form, but the CBC may end up with less playoff games and possibly lose the rights to some major events like the all-star game and Winter Classic. The expectation is that Sportsnet — which now owns 37.5% of the Leafs with TSN — will be part of the national package, possibly on Sunday nights. "

That alone is another $3.58MM per team toward payroll in HRR, and another $3.58MM per team ownership revenue.

Chances are TT will be on the team in 15/16 with a cap hit of $925,000. Shaw will be signed that season for $2.0 million but will likely be in line for another raise.

I hope your numbers for Saad and Kruger are accurate, I could see Saad being on his 2 year "bridge" contract at that time. The Morin/Pirri contracts would be interesting. If they get re-signed my guess is they get 1 year deals they be up for raises in 15/16.

Another wild card is LeBlanc, he has a one way deal in 14/15 so I'm sure he'll be given a chance to make the team. He could factor into the cap situation in 15/16.
