I read an article today citing that Hawks fans are not showing much love for Chelios being inducted into the HHOF. Hard feelings for the decade he spend with the Wings. I'm wondering if this is the case?

I've heard that broken femurs can be life threatening.

A kid on my team when I was younger broke his femur on a hit and it was the loudest scream I've ever heard. He was never allowed to play contact sports again

For young people like me, Chris Chelios is a Red Wing.

Olympic hockey may be exciting but it is a completely overrated hockey event and its likely the last time the NHL participates for awhile unless Bettman can come up with some creative monetary reason to go to some obscure village in Korea in February in 2018. But stars like Stamkos are critical to the NHL game and that's where the big loss is, especially if Tampa sinks like a stone in the standings which I suspect will happen.

I'd rather see no Blackhawks go to Socchi at all but that's just wishful thinking.

A World Cup will get organized soon and then they can tell the crooks at the IOC to pound salt.

There were a lot of reasons not to go this time...Bettman was caught because many Russians would nave gone anyway.

The TV ratings will be miniscule compared to last time.

I think if you gave Chelios truth serum...He would want to be remembered for playing for Chicago but down deep he would say he is a Red Wing.

On a call one time we were sent to an apartment for a 30 year old male who could not get out of bed. Turns out he was a body builder being entertained by two lovely blondes. Apparently at that special moment he clinched so bad that he broke both his Femurs because of his huge quads, etc. We had to call Flight For Life and the two women had gone hysterical.

Long, long time lurker. I had to join in to thank you for this story. Maybe the greatest single paragraph ever posted to a sports thread. I am trying to sort thru the thoughts.... Lucky bastard. Unlucky bastard. Did he consider it worth it? If so, how good was it?

Head spinning.

He had significant careers with three Original Six teams - pretty cool. Fantastic hockey player and one of my favorites (even though a Wing for ten years).

10 years in Detroit? Amazing. When he was traded there I bet most thought it would be for a few years to give him a great shot at another Cup. I know I did. Weird too how I think Probert spent more time here than in Detroit. Chelios IS the best American ever. But he always seemed like a schmuck to me

I dated his cousin in high school.....solely for Hawk tickets I must admit....hey I was 17...it was great going to all the games in 92 and meeting him on a few occasions......still the firmest handshake I have ever received. Saw him several years later at his restaurant in Detroit when I was there on a business trip and he remembered me. Talked with me for about ten minutes and was total class....took care of my bill and gave me a hug. One of life's cool memories......

One thing I had to endure during that season.....all the greek food and all the greek parties I had to go to.....Greek dancing....dear lord.....but hey lots of great hockey.

Meh. TBH. Never saw the big deal about Chelios. Let Detroit have him. What did he ever win here? Not a damn thing.

With all due respect Al, Brian Leetch was better. IMO. As was Modano.

Great interview with "The Great One" on NHL.com. Talks about when Chelios and Messier were behind him and getting ready to hit him they would let him know they were coming....great stuff!

While not entirely off topic, ESPN's Coming Home tribute to soldiers is an amazing piece of TV. If you don't at the very least get a lump in your throat, call a doctor. You're dead.

It is a tough debate. Leetch was great, no doubt. I still take Chelios over him, though. But slightly. Modano was another great one. Lafontaine is up there. Mullen. I still take Roenick over Modano, though. Probably just me, though

I was a big fan of Joey Mullins. If Lafontaine had stayed healthy, We aren't having this conversation at all.

That is true about Lafontaine.
