So Stamkos is probably done for the season, and might get a late start next season?

I am no doctor but being a former Paramedic I would say that it would be a struggle. We will have to wait until we find out what type of break it actually was.

I watched a documentary a few months ago and it talked about how if they identified the injury sooner he would've been fine.

I remember hearing that, too. He was such a fantastic athlete - that was really a shame.

I don't know. The kid at Louisville whose leg folded in half in the NCAA tournament in late March played in his teams first game recently, and I think was ready for practice when it began. He broke both bones, with one breaking the skin. His looked to me like he'd never walk again. Who knows, but I think there is hope at least.

I guess my point is will he be elite when he comes back???.......I have no doubt he will be back...my guess is early next season.....but will he be the all star we all know and appreciate?

I would say he'll be himself when he gets back, because it should not affect joints or muscle (unless there is joint injury now). Once the bone is healed it'll be the same as it ever was. For anything further, I'll have to sleep at a Holiday Inn Express tonight.

Edit: I think Bolland's injury might be more limiting long-term because he had a severed ankle tendon.

My son asked me who I thought was the best athlete in my lifetime. I said Bo Jackson....and then watched youtube videos for an hour. The kid loved it.....especially the ball he caught in centerfield when he was with the Royals.....

I completely agree with your assessment. Ali and Jordan were greater at their sports, but imo there was no better athlete than Bo Jackson.

I take it you have a medical background?

If you do, thanks for the insight.

I have worked with traumatic injuries, yes. I don't appeciate the implication, either.

I had a broken Fibula which is the smaller bone. It was a small fracture and the recovery time was 6-8 weeks. For the Tibia which is the larger bone and depending whether it was a simple or compound break which would need pins and possibly a rod you are looking at a much longer time frame.

It would be surprising to me if Stamkos could play in the Olympics.

Q. says he hasn't lost confidence in Khabby....Hawks overcome slow start and outlast Oilers 5-4: On the Blackhawks:http://bit.ly/19Wcf6e

What implication?

I just asked if you had a medical background, that's all.

When they say surgery that means pins, screws or a rod. I would think it would be awfully tough for him to make the Olympics in playing condition.

I have heard that sometimes with athletes they use the erector set to speed healing. Like I said above, it is likely early info.

Just a vast array of nuts, bolts, screws, pins, plates or rods that hold the crap together after we've busted it.

About 10 years ago I fell on the basketball court and landed on my hand/wrist to break the fall. Broke the scaphoid bone in the wrist. Doc offered me two choices - 12 weeks in a cast to the shoulder with a 70% chance of success, or a screw (in an operation ) with therapy to start in five days and complete recovery in 6 weeks or so. I took door number two and it worked just as described. Sometime putting the metal in allows for a quicker recovery, even though it sounds backwards.

That is how it works sometimes.
