Players have come back from this type of injury before, haven't they? - EKolb13
He's young , it should heal fine so long as the fx is fairly clean. Complete muscle or tendon tears are more worrisome. Long heal time, then regaining muscle size & strength. Several months. |

You love to lecture the thread about personal attacks and then throw out your little cowardly barbs (like this). Try holding back for a day or so and you may not see me call you on it.
You have improved a bit on your condescension to other posters but that is primarily because you have been preoccupied recently. Maybe hit the treadmill instead?
I do enjoy your attempts though.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and try holding back yourself?
I get it, you two don't get along. That's fine. I respect the opinions and posts from both you and US and enjoy seeing and discussing points with both of you. However, the personal attack stuff is getting really old. If you feel the need, how about moving the personal crap to PM's instead?
I could have really done without the "catamite" thing. |

Your first sentence says that reaching UFA status virtually guarantees the player is leaving (which is clearly wrong). Then you later say that it will be more expensive if he stays because of his current performance. Confusing....which is it?
You also say "if your team lets you get there then they do not want you at your price." I would add "yet" to the end of your sentence. Dozens of players per year reach UFA status and then somehow re-sign with their team. Sometimes one side needs to see what the market will be. Sometimes one side wants to gamble that the price will change one way or another. That does not mean they don't want to make a deal, or that they won't. I know you want to see bad things happen to the Blues, but you are just speculating unless you've got more info. - mohel
Clearly wrong?
How many high profile UFA's this last off season actually stayed with the team that allowed them to reach the open market? Not fringe or roll players. High tier players.

I take it you have a medical background?
If you do, thanks for the insight. |

Is there another player who had the same injury that we can compare with? |

Roll players? You mean fat? Oh, you meant role players.... Anyway, I'm not going to try to convince you of anything, partly because I think you're in "argue" mode, and partly because I've already made the points I care to make. I get it; you need to feel that the Blues are in for cap problems and their window is going to close this year. Got it. |

No games tonite because of the HOF induction.
And I'll bet Stamkos wishes there were no game this afternoon.
Everyone who says this is a very bad thing for hockey - is absolutely correct. Careers of stars are too short to have one of them possibly (possibly) lose a season.
Surgery tomorrow and then we'll know. |

The only thing that comes to mind for me is Bo Jackson. I'm probably way off base and it isn't the same injury.
You know, I should start making friends with some of my wife's co-workers. Having a Sports Medicine doctor to bullpoop with about this would be pure gold. |

Hi Eli. Not a doc here, but I have often heard during my life of sports watching that they hope for a break rather than severe sprains. I think most would want a clean break over an ACL for example. Of course I don't know anything about what Stamkos has; but I'm hopeful for him, whether he comes back this season or next. |

I would imagine it depends on where the break is.....mid shin or near the joints (knee or ankle)...or maybe it doesn't matter. |

Bo had avascular necrosis, which is the dying of tissue because of blood loss. His hip injury stopped blood flow, his hip partially died and had to be replaced. Emery almost had the same thing, but they stopped it before the need for the fake hip. So that is a joint issue; Stamkos has a broken bone that doesn't involve a joint (as far as is known). |

I watched a documentary a few months ago and it talked about how if they identified the injury sooner he would've been fine. |

I had a broken Fibula which is the smaller bone. It was a small fracture and the recovery time was 6-8 weeks. For the Tibia which is the larger bone and depending whether it was a simple or compound break which would need pins and possibly a rod you are looking at a much longer time frame. |

I don't know. The kid at Louisville whose leg folded in half in the NCAA tournament in late March played in his teams first game recently, and I think was ready for practice when it began. He broke both bones, with one breaking the skin. His looked to me like he'd never walk again. Who knows, but I think there is hope at least. |
