Or just Ovechkin, check out Landeskog goal against him last night when they put him on the point.

Excited to play you guys soon, want to see how we match up with one of the big boys of the division.

- DDM-Coga

You guys have become one of those 'Big Boys'. Your offense looks amazing! I didn't think you had the defense to be where you are, looks like I was wrong.

I like Pirri's game, he needs to position himself better without the puck but with it he seems to see the ice well, is a good passer and has a good shot. Shaw also seems to see the ice well and he also passes well, Shaw's advantage is, right now he is better positionally without the puck than Pirri. I think the one advanatge Pirri has, assuming he can tighten up defensively, is he may have more offensive upside than Shaw.
- paulr

Maybe true on the offense but I think Shaw is a good match with Kane and provides something he needs to be effective.

Pirri would be better off if he could be thought as being something besides a 2nd line center.

Johnson and Hejda have really played like a number 1 pairing....they normally would be a 2nd unit pairing on really good blueline but they are getting the job done as a unit.

Gettign good value from Guenin, Sarich, Benoit, and Wilson/Holden for the most part, but still would really like to add 1 more legit stable Dman before the olympic break sneaks up on us.

Trouble is if you take Pirri out of the top 6 I'm not sure he has the defesive abilities to play and be effective elsewhere.

And don't get me wrong about Shaw, he is one of my favorite hawks because of the way he plays, how versitile he is and because his determination won't allow his average talent to be held back.

I've been impressed with the Goals Against column, too. Seems Roy has helped instill a new defense-aware attitude along the forward lines as well. Goalies have been great as well. We'll see if the Av's can keep up the current pace (tall order), but I think they'll be a force for the foreseeable future.

The Hawks have not handled the Oiler or Av's well over the past few years. Some think this is about playing down to a level of competition. There might be something to this, but I think it also has something to do with the speed of these two teams. The Av's and Oil have played a similar style as the Hawks, and I think the Hawks have had trouble adapting. It will be fun to watch them play. I bet it is a little more fun watching them now, eh?

I have thought this too. Speed kills even the teams who have speed. It will be a fun game to watch.

Its been amazing watching them. Duchene is playing as a world elite player, Landeskog is a bull on the ice when he gets going. But its just fun watching the effort and compete level as a team. Sacco drained that team dry and as soon as they got scored against they just shut down and stopped playing.

There was always question marks around how would Roy be as a coach, but when you think about it. Isnt a goalie the perfect candidate to become a head coach. When playing he knew how he liked his D to play in front of him, and he knew what he hated to see the opposition forwards to do against him in a offensively. Add in his goalie knowledge he has a pretty good understanding of a system that he loved to deploy.

Don't forget O'Reilly who has been compared to Toews, or Stastny, who on many teams is their 1st line center and last but not least Nathan MacKinnon who promises to exceed Duchene as your #1 center.

Yes on Pirri and that's a big issue and a reason why he took so long to get a look.

What separates Shaw from being just another guy besides determination is his hockey IQ, his hands are pretty good and he can skate.

I have a feeling the Avs are gonna be a very tough matchup for the Hawks. I dont think it will end well for the Hawks.

Stastny has is looking good offensively again bc he actually has some good linemates for once. He is our shutdown center, so you will see him against the Toews line for sure.

O'Reilly looks good on the wing, its going to be interesting what they are going to do with those 2. Stastny could sign an extension if he is willing to sign for less and eventually just be the 3rd line center. O'Reilly should extend as long as he is ok playing the Wing.

I agree 100% on Shaw's hockey IQ and speed. Given more responsibility on the second line and the confidence he gets from that his 'pretty good hands' may become 'very good hands'. I also like his physicality and fearlessness.

Seems that the coach has demanded this and is getting it because the players respect him and his system. Sounds like a simple thing, but not as common as is often thought. For me, watching a team that goes balls-to-the-wall is what it's all about. Enjoy the season.

MEh. Its Edmonton. Who gets up for them? And for some reason, the Hawks are the only team in the league they seem to want to play. A win is a win is a win. No extra points for pretty.
- Elbows15

Edmonton is playing some pretty bad hockey, if we even had some decent defense/goaltending we'd have a better record, it's true though, the Oil love playing the Hawks, that would be a hell of a playoff series (if we can manage to make them that is )

Al-
Was at the game yesterday.....Krugman putting together a nice stretch at the dot, hopefully it continues. Pirri looked good the first period but looked lost in the 2nd into the 3rd.....I don't think he played much at all in the last ten minutes. I'm interested to see what Q does on Thursday with him......

Although Q likes to stay with a lineup until it fails - could be one reason Brookbank is still playing at wing. Wonder if the back-to-backs affected him a bit?

Game will mean more to Roy/Avs - probably treat it like a playoff game. Should be fun to watch.

Landeskog needs to keep his elbows and stick down. Plays too much like Kesler - needs to play more like Toews. You have some potential greats on your roster. Let's hope some of that young leadership OReilly, Mac, Duchesne can steer your team identity away from the Canuck style garbage.

Unfortunately, it looks like Roy may be more like Vigneault than Quennville.

I really doubt it would be much of a PO series. The Hawks like to open it up with the Oilers for some reason in the RS. Oilers would have a very difficult time if the Hawks played that tight D we saw/see against the Bruins/Wings/Kings et al...

Not sure what the hype on Eakins was all about. Maybe they should have moved MacTavish behind the bench???

I just watched the goal. It looked like Ovi was busy twerking than playing defense. He was still pouting from falling face first.

The crowd was really on him after that, scary moment getting tangled up with Hejda but it was just a hockey play. He laid down on the ice for a long time, then got up on his own will and started barking at the ref about how it should be a penalty and then was out there the next shift.

After the game he was saying it was a dangerous play and should be a suspension.

he was supposed to be good with teaching the younger kids (Kadri)..I don't know though..I don't think everyone is buying into his system, although this team has had 4 coaches in 5 years, which is ridiculous IMO..they need structure..oh..and get rid of Lowe..

Saw the Landeskog goal - Ovechkin looking for the big hit instead of actually playing some defense.
