Ya know how the Oilers reportedly don't (didn't?) want any Flyers players, because none of them look(ed?) impressive to their pro scouts? That's a two-way street. Who has been impressive at all this year for the Oils? Hall? Arcobello? Eberle? Two of those 3 are all but unobtainable, and we have no need for a center. Hall or Eberle are the only two I would want. What was the reported asking price for just Eberle? Voracek, Coburn, and Couturier? I thought it was somewhere along those incredibly-ridiculous lines.

It depends on if they're dealing for now or the future. I take the "reported" asking price with a grain of salt. You're going to pay a high price for Eberle or Hall, for sure.

But you might also be able to pry Yakupov for less. Granted he's not as sure a bet as Eberle, but the kid's got a massive talent.

I'd even be OK with getting a guy like Hemsky if the Oilers take a defenseman with a few years left on his deal

This is all true, but they've played several games (Carolina, NJ, Carolina) that they should have won and didn't. It's not as satisfying as a win over Boston/Pittsburgh, but it's a game they should have won and did. And it was nice that Giroux scored a "Giroux" goal, not a tap-in or EN goal. As he goes, the team will go...until we trade him, Couturier, B Schenn, and Voracek for Eberle.

Of course, but then we'd have Eberle

I did like how the Flyers played against the Oilers. They had a lot of jump, worked hard and went to the dirty areas that you need to go to, if you're going to be successful. They won puck battles, avoided stupid mistakes-for the most part-and got rewarded with a win.

Of course, Edmonton is another struggling team, and a really bad defensive team. For all the good things the Flyers did, better teams than Edmonton won't be as easy to outplay.

I'm still open to a move that makes sense, for now and in the future.

i'd truly like to see a move for yakupov. the guy broke many of stammers records for the sting, had one hell of a scouting report, and unfortunately went to edmonton to die like the rest of the #1 overall picks that end up there. Get him now while he is in the doghouse... not once he gets out.

He's definitely intriguing...not sure how high a price a pay for him, because he's ruffled some feathers in both Edmonton and Sarnia. I'm not calling it a Russian thing, more an immature guy who has always gotten his way thing.

Think Coburn, BSchenn and a high pick could do it, or is that a pipe dream?

i agree - thats the downside risk - he flames out like zherdev.

if something like coots and coby could get it done i would pull the trigger but i obviously have no idea what they'd want

I'm not sure I'd go that high myself. He's a great natural talent, but there's a lot of questions. I think Schenn will be a very good player. I'd hate to move him and a high pick

Yeah, I don't want to move picks if at all possible.

Doesn't help. Meszaros is a UFA after this season, like Hemsky. IO was thinking more Grossmann for him, take on a few months of Hemsky to get rid of a bad deal moving forward

I don't think Grossmann is on a bad deal. He's slightly overpaid, sure, but only for two more years.

I'd be concerned about losing him when next year's Flyers will also be missing Timonen, Meszaros and Gill.

Grossmann's a third pair, stay at home guy making more than $3mm per year. I hate that contract.

I think this underrates Grossmann...I have him as a solid second pairing defensive D man with a modicum of two-way ability. Despite the rhetoric from some, he's not slow at his size, hits effectively, is one of the leagues top shot blockers, makes basic puck moving plays and can make offensive zone keeps and get some shots in...he can play 20-22 mins a night without a problem imo.
