See, bringing him in, to me, made sense. I wasn't expecting anything nuts- just that locker room vet presence and someone that was a capable fill in when needed. Sort of like an O'Donnel type thing, except a tad better on the ice.

I say this because I never thought I'd really like him. I love how he carries himself off the ice, I love his interviews, I love how he understands his role on the team, and I love how he embraces that role.

Hell, now I REALLY never thought I'd say this:

I was disappointed when he returned to being a healthy scratch. He played great those games and I loved the way he was calm with the puck. I'm really, really happy with how he's turned out so far.

I know what you mean. My first reaction was 'what are they thinking'
After reading Brad Marsh's blog, I saw him in a different light. Gill may not be fast but he absolutely knows what to do in most situations. That kind of thing is invaluable to young D guys.

and he should absolutely be a player coach down there, please ty

They could use him, they haven't had the best track record developing young defenseman.

I love Lappy as a coach, that was a real good move too.

As much as I bemoan the signing I really hope yesterday giroux gets on track to proving me wrong about him. It was only Edmonton but they put away a team they're supposed to which is a good thing.

Just wanna take this time to say I ha e been pleasantly surprised with Steve mason. I never thought when we traded bob for him this would turn out the way it did. That trade right there might actually save this season and homer. We'll see.

Jaromir Jagr picked up his 120th career game-winning goal tonight. Now one behind Gordie Howe for most in NHL history.

Jagr is an all time great, it's amazing really that he is still effective.

He is someone I've done a 180 on, having not only gotten to see him play here in Philadelphia for that one year (and Dallas part of the next) but also having had the chance to interview him after practices and games. He is nothing like what I thought he'd be off the ice -- he's actually a real approachable guy (almost always smiling and jovial) and is a real bright guy as well. He was always talking up his teammates' abilities.

I feel the same way.

Of course I never had the chance to talk to him, but love his sense of humor.
He still can rag the puck as good as anyone.

Not to nitpick, but Bob and Mason were 2 separate deals.

Florida sends Jakob Markstrom to the AHL...kid has not played very well for them.

I'd go after him. He's still very, very young on a piss-poor team.

Absolutely. I think this is more of a "go down and play kid, and work out the kinks" demotion than a "we gotta trade this (frank)in' guy" move

Ya know how the Oilers reportedly don't (didn't?) want any Flyers players, because none of them look(ed?) impressive to their pro scouts? That's a two-way street. Who has been impressive at all this year for the Oils? Hall? Arcobello? Eberle? Two of those 3 are all but unobtainable, and we have no need for a center. Hall or Eberle are the only two I would want. What was the reported asking price for just Eberle? Voracek, Coburn, and Couturier? I thought it was somewhere along those incredibly-ridiculous lines.

Edit: Eks reported asking price was Simmonds, Voracek, and LSchenn just to keep EDM on the line.

I see he is a plus 8 so far counting today (+2). is he going to be given a shot as a 5-6-7 on this team?
- nastyflyergirl

I think he should absolutely be given every chance at the 3rd pair next year. Right now, to me, he's the closest one they have to make the jump. Bur right now, there's a small log jam on D. If 2 of the "big" guys (Schenn, Gill, Grossmann) go down, he'll probably get the call up. If 2 of the more skill/skater guys (Timonen, Streit, Gus, Meszaros, Coburn) go down, Alt might get the call.

I did like how the Flyers played against the Oilers. They had a lot of jump, worked hard and went to the dirty areas that you need to go to, if you're going to be successful. They won puck battles, avoided stupid mistakes-for the most part-and got rewarded with a win.

Of course, Edmonton is another struggling team, and a really bad defensive team. For all the good things the Flyers did, better teams than Edmonton won't be as easy to outplay.

I'm still open to a move that makes sense, for now and in the future.

This is all true, but they've played several games (Carolina, NJ, Carolina) that they should have won and didn't. It's not as satisfying as a win over Boston/Pittsburgh, but it's a game they should have won and did. And it was nice that Giroux scored a "Giroux" goal, not a tap-in or EN goal. As he goes, the team will go...until we trade him, Couturier, B Schenn, and Voracek for Eberle.

I can't wait for this to be an over-sized shutdown pairing in a few years.
