Philly wants to win the trade and haven't found one yet that meets that criteria. Helen Keller would know they have been trying. Thinking the Rangers are involved helps but so many bad contracts with movement clauses really makes it tough for anything major from Holmgren. Pressure isn't the same on Sather right now, and he rarely overpays in trades anyway, like he does in free agency. He will stand pat and not think twice if it isn't right. Holmgren and Ed Snider right now?..........God may not know.

I think Hemsky's best value is a deadline pickup for a contender's 2nd or 3rd line. Not to hop on a team under a mountain of pressure with the hopes that he'll turn their record around. Just sayin'...

They don't. They already have Voracek and don't need another similar player. Hemsky will be one of the most sought after players come deadline time so if I'm the oilers, I hang onto him for max value. They aren't making the playoffs now anyway. Plus he's a UFA so why would the flyers trade for him and give up a lot? Itamakeanoasensa.

IMO Smid would have been in higher demand at the TDL as well. Buyers get desperate, especially if they miss out on their original targets and panic.
