I wanted Smid gone last year. He and Petry have zero chemistry. And more often than not when the puck is in the net Smid is the one standing there.

I've also wanted Hemsky gone for years. Like 5 years or so I've been saying he needs to go.

And I've never over valued them. Our real players? Maybe. But those same guys MacT said they over value them too and would need an over pay to trade any of them. The spare parts I really don't care what we get back.

Good trade for both teams. Horak will be an upgrade for the Oilers on that 3rd line. Brossoit is better than anything they have in the pipe. Calgary has Arnold & Gaudreau coming + Porrier & Klimchuk challenging next year. No room for Horak. Ortio was outplaying Brossoit, Mac isn't tradeable & Gilles is 2 years away. We desperately needed a 3-4 shutdown dman & Smid should fit in fine with the type of blueline we have. Good deal by both. Sad day when Oilers /Flames can make a trade without screams from tall buildings & people plummeting 500 feet. So much for the rivalry

Smid may fit well with the Flames as a #4 shutdown guy. On the Oil he was pushed down to 5-6 because he and Petry together just didn't work. Depending on his playing partner he may be able to slot into #4 and do well.
