While I didnt think Smid was anywhere near as good as Oiler fans did. This seems like a terrible deal for EDM. I woulda thought he woulda got a better return.

Yeah, but during the past few years he's been one of the team's few competent/decent defensmen, I'll take the larger sample size since he isn't at the age where he's slowing down. Seems like the Oilers just sold low, unless one of these prospects turn out to be good NHL'ers.

I use to love Smid… but a lot of miles on that body be it with his hits and tons of blocked shots. He's the modern day Volchenkov. I wonder what Smid was like back in the day to warrant an 8th overall selection?

Looks like a Brian Burke deal. He never sits still and waits to build through the draft. Maybe this sets up a move for the Flames, to move out a defenseman. Someone like Denis Wideman makes sense, going to somewhere like Philly for more forward depth.
