They're just a bad team. Bryz is good enough to play in the NHL. I don't know if he is really a starter the same way I'm not convinced that Mike Smith even is outside of Phoenix but I'm positive he can be one of the better 30 game backups in the league.

I don't like this first move, although dubnyk has been pretty awful. I think losing Smid will hurt - but - if they manage to bring back a defenseman who can play in another deal then overall..maybe it'll spark the team a bit.

If another deal doesn't happen...then I think this one makes very little sense.

I'm thinking that since this year is the first year Dubnyk is the uncontested #1 in Edmonton he might have got a little comfortable. With Bryz now in the picture and in a position to possibly take the #1 job from him hopefully Dubnyk will get better.

If Bryz is only signed for 2mil why did they have to clear cap space by trading Smid? According to capgeek the oilers have 7.5 mil cap space and that is with Smid's 3.5mil off the books.

I do like the acquisition of Brossoit as he is probably a better goalie prospect than Bunz or Roy was at this point. However I think MacT could have gotten a little more for Smid and Roy than what he did.
