He was a big factor for their success. They gave up a fair number of odd man rushes and high quality chances. High risk, high reward hockey. And he let them do it because he was good enough.

The ability to move is damn near everything in goaltending. It seperates a guy like Markstrom from a guy like Reimer. Brossoit has athleticism out the anus. He's a marked improvement over Bunz and Roy.

The guy was a good dman until Eakins was coach.

Now Eakins is coach and everyone sucks or a 27yr old regressed rapidly in 17 games.

you act as if he's 33 years old and on the decline. he's 25. he scored 28 goals as a 23 year old, and was on pace for 27 as a 24 year old. to say he's going to regress for the rest of his career is a little crazy.

he's young, and he's going to get better, and he will score 30 a few times in a his career. every single year? maybe not. but i can't imagine him not scoring at least 20-25 barring a bad year or 2.

Yup, I think it s more of Smid not fitting into Eakins "system" than Smid regressing at 27. Oilers sold low IMO.
