Eberle makes players around him better... He is our best winger- he has the smarts and skill as well as stats to prove it... Last year he was near the top in scoring and he played most season with an injured hand FFS... He does not have the speed of Hall nor the flash of 1st overall but until proven otherwise he is our best player...
- saskoil21

I disagree, RNH is your best player! When healthy he's the man there, you build championship teams through the middle….he's definitely your best player.

lol, thanks. All obviously highly, highly theoretical, but I think there is legit traction here. Both teams are in need of some help in certain areas, so it's very possible something comes from this, who knows?

As for option A), the rationale is that Edmonton already has the offensive talent to win, they just need to tighten up defensively, and I figure Coburn and certainly Couturier would immediately address this.

- Flyers_V88

We'd be a .500 hockey team with average goaltending and a winning team with good goaltending.

Couterier and Coburn could address it but I'm not so sure - I think the Oiler brass would have to see additional value with them over Eberle.

Overall, it's a still a young, maturing, defensively unsound team that may benefit in the long run but I firmly believe this team needs a goalie.

you would be tempted??? to give away 2 spare parts for a dynamic forward you would be tempted? Wow, you must go to confessional everyday to have such strong control of your temptations... YOU FOOL

Brayden Schenn is a spare part?

We're talking Brayden Schenn right? Right?!
- Jack-artist

I hope so. Nobody likes Luke Schenn, specifically and most of all Luke Schenn.

He's been on for a lot of goals against, which would be my only concern. He's also another small, skilled (more skilled than what we have) forward. Our offense is tiny. We need some bigger bodies to win battles and get in front of the net. I just don't think Eberle is what we need, unless we make some other moves to add size up front.

Is Schenn regressing that much? He seems to have fallen back from his progress.

How has Streit been?

- ImThatGuy

B Schenn has been pretty good actually. I mean, NO ONE on Philly save Mason, Emery, and Coburn are playing well. But he's at least still giving and honest effort. I just think Couturier can grow in Bergeron-lite.

Aaah, using his first name is helpful. Luke Schenn was named specifically, U used just the surname. I inferred you meant the same player. Still not taking it tho

Tessier takin shots at the Oilers

Memo to Ed Snider: we've never seen anything like taking a SCF finalist to bottom of league in 3 years either- oh wait #Oilers

- LeftCoaster

Due respect to the last time the Oilers had competent management, they were barely hanging on to 8th spot in January of '06, and then went and got Tarnstrom, Spacek, Roloson and Samsonov in moves they won big time. They were in fact closer to a bottom of the league team than the kind of team anyone would predict would be a cup finalist.

This has been an issue with the goaltending most of the year. It's a total garbage fire back there so the +/- on goals is in the tank because of that one position for a lot of players. If that eases your mind a bit.

Fair enough. Given the options, I'd rather keep both B Schenn and Couturier and do a deal centered around Simmonds.

While we've got some Flyers fans around, I'd like to get your opinions on a trade I've been selfishly throwing around everywhere.

Eberle and Smid for Coburn, Simmonds, McGinn, and a 2nd

Thoughts? Additions and/or subtractions from either side?

I think any trade involving Ebs has to have B Schenn or Coburn plus a 1st coming back imo.

Please, Mr. MacT, hang up the phone with Homer. I'll put in a call to Army on my BatPhone and get him to send you Stewart + Elliott for Eberle if he's really available. I might even be able to get him to throw in a 3rd if he's feeling saucy today.

The Blues get more skill up front (which they need) and the Oilers get more size up front and a goalie not made out of swiss cheese (both of which they need badly). The cap hits even balance to within $50k. This screams DEEEEEEAAAALLLLL!!!!!

Streit's actually been making some fine outlet passes. He's done exactly what's been advertised: good offensive defenseman with some serious defensive issues.

YES, in years when the Oilers have had any measure of success it has been on the back of a goalie who could carry the team and steal a few wins. Remember Cujo, and Tommy Salo years? The Oilers were not that good but these elite 'tenders allowed them to compete every night and that inspires confidence in the rest of the club. The Oilers have not had a goalie like that since Roli and go figure, he took them to the cup final.

Overpay by trade if you manna make a real turnaround this year before losing anymore of the kids to complacency or overpay in the summer and hope for the best, either way, reality says we will have to overpay. Accept it and make it happen.
