Markov isn't dead wood to the habs. he's their second best defenseman.
they have nobody who has proven capable of replacing him in the near future. - dt99999
1. What I describe is in the event that things continue in the direction they are gone for the last couple of weeks.
2. As mentioned yesterday (or Wednesday), if Habs ever want to rebuild properly, don't they eventually have to stop threading water. Will Markov be around when/if this team ever becomes a contender? If your answer is yes, then you are watching a different team than I am. Get something for him while you still can. |

I wouldn't mind if they resign him at 4.5-5M$ per for 2 years. If he asks for 6 then trade him. |

yes but I would hardly consider him dead wood which was the initial post although I think it may have been a post by Symba007 which makes me question why I read it in the first place let alone respond. |

I am a pro Markov and as much as I hate to admit it... your right.
I don't want to see him in another jersey but by the time the Habs become elite, he won't be as dominat as he is now. |

And isn't that what will be interesting between now and the deadline? From what I heard, he would like 5M. That's in the higher range of what you said. What if Bergevin doesn't want to go that high? What if Markov says I want 5.5M and then 4 teams call about him and start a bidding war?
edit: And for the record, I am also pro-Markov. I just think now might be the right time. |

Well then you trade him...as I said.
They'd be (frank)ing stupid to say no if a GM calls and says "I give you a 1st for Markov". |

I think MB, if he offers Markov around the league, can get more than just a 1st. IF he can get a bidding war going. The initial offers would be a 1st, I think. |
