Send him to Hamilton next year if he has no value in Montreal. Buy him out after that. 4 years @ 1.75M for the buy-out... (roughly, I don't know all the exact details but you get the idea)

doesn't matter, his contract remains on the cap anyway

I thought every team had only 2 buy out after the lockout. Habs using Gomez and Kaberle on them?

They'll buy him out but only after next season IMO
- scotch_tape

Yeah, they kind of show that they, as an organization, have offered Desharnais every avenue to break out of the "slump" before buying him out to not hurt their reputation around the league, imo.

2 free buy-outs that don't count against the cap. They can buy-out as many as they want with cap penalties. And yes, his contract will count vs. cap next season if they send him to Hamilton, but it's still better than having the distraction in the room. (Plus they have room to do it with the Gallys still on rookie contracts).

if they were going to waste the money on drewiske, murray, etc they should have just bit the bullet on kaberle for one more year and kept that buy out. I think they were good through next season no?

I didn't do the math but I think Kaberle's money was use to to get Briere.... another mistake

DD still put up points at a 55ish point pace last year. No one knew that he was absolutely finished the way he appears to be. What has happened to him is stunning.

Still trying to figure out why they felt the need to go after Brière after missing out on Lecavalier.

they couldn't know it at the time but if you can keep something like that in your pocket, why buy out a contract with one year left?

Thought at the time they should have used it on Gorges and bit the bullet on Kaberle. Kaberle was the easy decision that came with no questions.

I guess they see value in a guy like that, letting Gallagher stay with him and poop. I dunno... he's a big cap hit but he's serviceable.

Factors for DD to become effective,

- Plays at center
- offensive role only
- needs to play with power forward winger
- at least one winger with above average offensive skills

Failing to provide all those criteria's to DD and he can become totally ineffective in a hockey game. We are discovering this ugly side of him at the moment.

But on the same token, in the right scenario, he could help a team offensive plays if they are able to provide these condition to him. Montreal is no longer a good fit for DD.
