According to Cap Geek prior to signing Bryzgalov the Oilers had almost $9.5MM in cap space. If moving Smid was to clear space they must be close to making a large trade to add at least $4MM in cap charges and one of those players is quite likely a D-man. At least that is what makes sense.

When they were scouting the Rangers-Ducks game, there was alot of talk about the scouting the Ducks tender. The Bryz signing coupled with the fact that they have been stalking Rangers games since obviously means something is up.

Well, they play the Flyers at 1pm Saturday, and the Rangers don't play until Sunday night so the stage is set. All the possible parties are within 90 miles.
