it's simple: too top-heavy, too many of the same type of players, no intangibles or character guys. combine that with a lot of youth, bad goaltending, and spotty defense and you have a recipe for disaster.

it's funny because it seems like most oilers fans want to trade yakupov for another player just like yakupov and refuse to consider a package deal for depth and grit like the gaborik deal we made thinking it would solve their problems. you give the oilers simmonds, you give them a top 3 defender that can log 20 mins a game, and you have them a decent goalie, and they'll start winning more games. then you sign a couple more gritty guys and 1 more defender and you have a championship roster.

Everyone should remember that first paragraph when they complian over Boyle, Pyatt, Pouliot etc. You need foot soldiers and grit to go with top end talent, can't have all of one and none of the other to win

Carter and Richards like to party too much, and apparently Holmgren thought it was necessary to change the culture there, despite the successes that they had with those guys on the team. But, at the end of the day, a professional hockey team is not a sunday school choir, and they lost an edge when they traded those guys. They simply haven't been the same since.

Changing the atmosphere to losing because, aside from the aberration of 2011-2012, the Flyers have been a complete joke since that deal.

The 2011-2012 season saw many Flyers have career seasons: Hartnell, Giroux, Simmonds, Voracek, Talbot, etc.

Look at the state of this franchise: no prospects to speak of(unless you think Sam Morin is a legitimate prospect), their current roster is loaded with bloated salaries, over the hill veterans and underachieiving performers. They fire their head coach to sub him with a guy that looks completely overwhelmed with the position and in net they are platooning two 1A type goaltenders.

Man, being a Rangers fan suddenly isn't so bad, haha.

If it is Eberle going to the Flyers, if it's not a package centered around Simmonds+ or Couturier, a 2014 first round pick+, the Oilers are out of their minds.

Giroux is not getting dealt, I just can't see that happening, at all.

I wonder what was said Btwn Giroux and Snyder. Did he ask out? Ask for Berube to be out? Ask for a team shake up? I know he was getting ripped for not talking to the media last night afterwards.

We most definitely need to dress asham, teams are taking liberties with all our players, and it won't stop until sather/av address it.

it's exactly what happened after the nash trade. not only did we lose guys like dubi and arty in the trade, but we lost mitchell, feds, prust and probably someone else i'm forgetting to FA. we replaced them with plugs to fill in roster spots like asham, halpern, pyatt, etc.

not that our depth is replenished, we're winning again.

i meant calling for the NHL to review the hit. if it was stepan for example, we'd be going bananas. but since it's pyatt, no one has mentioned it. kinda sad but telling.

It beats me what went on, in that Snider-Giroux conference, but I can't imagine it was a meeting without reverb through the organization.

Something is going to give and soon; the Flyers are the joke of the league right now. At least Buffalo and Florida can claim they are going full rebuild. The Flyers are a team, on paper, that is built to compete now, and they are an absolute on-ice disgrace.

How are they that bad? I get that they aren't constructed right. I get that they are weak on the backline and in goal. But, how, with that talent upfront, are they that bad? I'm not saying they should be world beaters, but they should be better than they are.

I don't get it either, there were some concerns with them coming into the year but I never expected it to be this bad for them.

that is one of the most annoying things ever, not more than when the Capitals score a goal at home and the arena acts like they won the Stanley Cup everytime, but it's up there

In the eyes of Oilers managment, Eberle will be an Oiler forever. Forever is a long time, but, he's not a trade target.

so the Oilers are trading nobody because everybody they have is great apparently

Yea that's a joke. I hate that outta Oil fans too. "We would love Del Zotto or Krieder or Stall, but Hall, Ebs, Nuge, Yak, and Schultz are all UNTOUCHABLE. HERE TAKE KLEFBOM!"

Dreger apparently thinks that the Oilers need to listen real hard if they can get Del Zotto for Yakupov (or in some package), so I wonder if he knows something.

I would just love to know what is going on with the Oilers' brass stalking the Rangers, because it's just hard for me to imagine the Rangers being that interested in Hemsky.

Yakupov will be a Ranger... I'm not to confident in many things, but this one I am. MDZ + Krito... it will happen

Do you think Rangers' fans will extend to him even 1/2 of the courtersy we have given other prospects regarding development time. Because it doesn't look like he is going to light the world on fire this year. If we get him, we can't sh*tcan him after 15 games if he isn't getting it done less than two years after he was drafted.

There is at least one major deal being discussed today. It's not the kind of trade that goes down without approval...from NHL and players.

(that's a no trade clause being waived)
