Anyone they part with will find more success elsewhere. Look at Talbot. He is already happier with THE LOCKERROOM. There is a cancer among us. Time to cut it out.

I still think 2006 was worse. I was just very upset with that roster. At least I like some of the players on this one.
- jmatchett383

There's parallels, but at least 2006 had a few semi-legit excuses with Forsberg, Richards and Carter being out for extended periods and the goaltending being atrocious.

This team... is just not ready.

did he say that?

Of course not. Even the beats who try to make mountains of molehills haven't been able to manufacture discussion of such a thing. He was happy after a win with a better team playing better. What a shock.

1.) I think a trade is coming, like it or not.

2.) I was kinda hoping the Caps game was rock bottom. It wasn't. I think this game was.

3.) Prediction: When they lose to the Oil this Saturday afternoon, the "Fire Holmgren" chant will be out in full force. Afternoon games get a bit rowdier than weeknight games and I can see this getting kinda ugly on Saturday.

- johndewar

I hope the fans let him have it. I am currently on strike form the Flyers until Giroux scores. So I may not be watching a game for awhile. But the people there need to have something to get fired up about. Firing Holmgren could be that "something"

So his amazing numbers in the 2010 playoff run was a direct result of playing with Asham and the rookie JvR?
- jmatchett383

You mean his " amazing" numbers when NOT facing teams best defenders like his "amazing" numbers this year? Face it his 94 point season isn't happening again. At least not in Philly. Hope I'm wrong. God I really do but no idea how he gets back to to that level

We're 15 games in. It's the first week of November. We're going to stop trying to win games?

Who are we going to develop that's not already seeing ice time? Luke Schenn and Eric Gustafsson? They're the answer? They're the difference? That's the fallow field we need to sow? How much of a long term difference are those two players going to make?

This team needs to find a system and will to win games NOW!!! You don't toss away 67 games.

They need to make moves to get even younger but that's not a development issue. Some of these players need to be moved. Some old and possibly some young but it's not about casting away the rest of this season to develop what we have.

I agree w/you MOAT. There's a ton of hockey left. These guys just have to pull their socks up and out work the other team. This isn't a roster full of Geoff Sanderson's and Mike York's.

and many around the league have laughed at us, it's sad, you can win w/o elite talent, but hard work is the main ingredient for that, & I don't think we will see that anytime soon.
There are so many "down" factors right now it's disgusting, when your new head coach's main (X & O) philosophy is "move your feet" you know we're still in 1976.

- puckhead17

I think it's a fallacy that teams win Stanley Cups without elite talent -- if it was ever true, it's not true anymore. Now, every team attempts to play a system that neutralizes the common denominator that every team has: the average player.

You need to have great players to win in the league, with a sound system, and a talented goalie. You have to have all three now. You can't fake it anymore, like the Nashvilles and Minnesotas used to do.

With the salary cap and most importantly the salary floor, there has been constriction in the league, so the theoretical talent gaps that might have existed in the playoffs anymore are even less than they were.

It's been a long time since the Florida Panthers rode the trap into the Stanley Cup finals.

Since then, we've seen teams with Vezina winners, Norris Trophy candidates/winners, Hart Trophy winners, Selke Trophy candidates/winners, all raising the Cup.

This league is different than it used to be, when Jacques Lemaire's Minnesota Wild could put you to sleep but still win games. Now, almost every single team can play like the Wild.

The only way to win in a league like this is being able to capitalize on mistakes. You cannot miss when you have the chance, because every team will get random bounces over the course of the year, over the course of games. Having as many skilled players around to take advantage of those, following your system and making the most of the opportunities that come with mistakes that are made, is the only way to win consistently.

I'm morbidly intrigued by this team.

I'm honestly interested in what thing has to happen to make this team competitive outside of "HURRRRR BURN IT ALL DOWN WITH TEH TRADEZ I MADE ON NHL14 HUUURRR!11!1!1".

And bryz
- funmaster18

It's sad that Bryz is getting paid more than our starting goalie for the next 14 years, to not play for the flyers. He hit the jackpot by signing with the free spending flyers. He'll be in his late 40s until the Flyers are done paying him.

1.68 mill for 14 years to do nothing. Oh yea, the players got hosed in the last CBA.

Vinnie will, of course, get 1.76 mill for 14 years to not play for the Lightning.

Vinnie is still a good player but the Flyers created the 2nd biggest buyout in league history and then signed the biggest buyout in league history.

You're upset that they're a bunch of 3rd/4th liners...yet you're incensed they didn't bring a 3rd liner back? Because, at this stage, that's what he is.
