Is any rumor creditable until it happens?
- nonpoint22

Some sources of rumors are more credible than others.

I was asking him if he read about the Flyers actively pursuing Yakupov.

Ok. Nice to know how some of you stand on Coburn. Thanks and good luck to your team! They're bound to start scoring sometime. It's rare for any team to have 6 of their top-9 forwards shooting well below their career averages and when it does happen, they almost always rediscover their touch!
- MaximumBone

Coburn has all the skill in the world, but he lacks hockey sense and a really good feel for the game. You get him a good, smart partner, and he's really good. But when he has to be the guy anchoring the pair...it can be messy.

yeah. from an oilers standpoint, i do see the problem in too many wing/scorer types, but eberle isnt the one to make room by moving, regardless of the return. hemsky can piss off.
- stayinthefnnet

the article listed the oilers list in order of who is less likely to be traded and it went RNH, Hall, then a yak or eberle....so there thoughts that if a BIG name was indeed moved probably be one of those two...still doubtful at best imho

As recently as seven months ago he was a very solid second pairing guy playing 20 minutes+ a night.

Giroux is a third line grinder based solely on his play this season.

- Feanor

If posters want to take the L. Schenn angle of the trade fine. There isn't a Flyer fan on the face of the Earth that wouldn't undo that trade. That's the bottom line.

Absolutely. He's a stud. Has everything that they need. Speed, scoring ability and he's got a knack for finding the net

I think Tim is a moron, but where there is smoke there is fire. I doubt it involves Eberle, but I'm 75% certain Edmonton and Flyers are very close on a deal... Only thing that I think could stop it is NYR.

The 3 teams are just perfect trading partners. All 3 are struggling, so no team is trading from a position of weakness. I believe both the FLyers and Rangers are going after Yakupov. I think Rangers have more attractive defenseman which edmonton needs, but the Flyers have better secondary pieces to kick in with a defenseman. Edmonton has been dying for Simmonds for a while...

I can see 2 things happening... 1 Coburn, Simmonds, Laughton for Yakupov. Or 2 Schenns for Yakupov.

- youarewrong

Trading either Coburn or Mason for Yakupov is a bad deal for us. Coburn is our leading defenseman, and Mason is getting the job done in net and potentially could hold the job down for the next 10+ years. I like the idea of stability in net. Why would we go after an aging - and much more expensive Miller - when we've already got a solid goalie?

I'd prefer to see Laughton on the Flyers next season.

Simmonds I'd drive to the airport. Same with Hartnell, but he likely wouldn't go to Edmonton unless he knew they were a contender sooner rather than later.

Throw Smid in the mix and the conversation changes.

Petry can probably carry that pairing. I'm counting on Schultz being able to sometime as well, but he's suffering from a bit of a sophomore slump this season. As long as Coburn can cover defensive responsibilities and clear the front of our net, then I'm down with him!

Man, any defenseman who can skate and actually read an offensive play in front of him would look like 1983 Paul Coffey right now on our blueline

I like your belief in Mason but time will tell on that goalies are traditionally very up and down....I do think you overvalue Coburn....He has all the tools to be a top end d man but just isnt....I have no problem saying adios to Coburn if scoring is coming other way

Coburn isn't that physical, but he's big and fast, has good reach, can get a bit chippy, and is overall a solid d-man, especially when properly paired. And back when he first came over to the Flyers, he had a wicked shot from the left circle and could be counted on to blast a few home. Then either something changed with him or a coach messed him up cause he doesn't do that any more...but the potential is there.

I wouldn't argue with that. My problem is trading for another kid with potential. Couts, L Schenn, B Schenn, Voracek - all top 10 picks not long ago.

Then again, Yakupov would fit right in on this team with his 1 goal and 3 points.

Phone ate my post. Thanks Wolfe for expressing my opinion here... I would add he's been injury free during his time here and rarely takes dumb penalties.
I like him but would understand if he gets traded.

Yup. I would only argue we need D coming back the other way if Coburn is shipped out.

Also, darn phone!
