I actually fell asleep before the third period started. I wasn't trying to, I just did. That never happens but this team is so boring.

So we're dedicating 67 games to see if two bubble defensemen can play in the NHL? That's just the most terrific attitude I've ever heard.

What do we do with the rest of the team? Just run them out there as support until we know where Schenn and Gustafsson eventually fit on a last place team?

Just wonderful...

People on this thread have completely lost hope, focus and any grasp on reality.

No, you give the young players the responsibility to be front-line players, and then respond to the results.

When Mike Keenan took over the Bruins, he inherited a young Joe Thornton who hadn't really taken that next step forward. Keenan was asked what he was going to do, and his answer was basically, "Play the hell out of him and make him sink or swim."

If they sink, you have the answer. If they swim, then they are part of the solution.

But what I'm saying is no different than other teams in the league have done, or will do, with young players.

100% agree. Get Gus and LSchenn as many minutes as possible. Get Coots playing meaningful minutes WITH GOOD WINGERS. And hey, maybe get a skill winger. Novel idea, I know.

Kimmo needs to go have one last shot somewhere. I don't care what the return is. One of Coburn or Grossmann needs to go and needs to be replaced by a faster moving D man. I think one of Hartnell/Simmonds needs to be replaced with a skill winger for sure.

- hereticpride

We'll give you Hemsky, Omark and a 3rd for Simmonds.

Hemsky and Voracek might actually be a good combination, but Omark and a 3rd probably isn't going to get it done.

Thanks, but we could just pluck Omark from waivers on his way back down to OKC -- and keep Simmonds.

This organization is a failure from the very top on down. The players dont fit together, and may not have the talent, but they are also not competing. That falls on the coach/GM. There is no respect given to management from the players (esp the younger ones) and its on display every night on the ice.

You're out of line here. Do you know what the alternative is. Hal Gill and Mez? Yeah and I'm out of touch with reality. You play the kids to see what you have.

" * The Flyers held a closed-door team meeting after the game. When the locker room doors opened, club president Ed Snider was in conversation with Claude Giroux just outside the locker room. Giroux ultimately left without speaking to reporters."

When asked, Berube said he wasn't in that room and quipped, "management-team" meeting? So are we to believe that Snider level management closed the doors with Berube outside? Does being with Giroux just after mean Snider was inside the room, conducting the meeting? Help us out here, Bill. Was Holmgren nowhere to be seen either? Far more intrigue here than on the ice.

I agree. It is a huge story. Does not necessarily mean any changes are coming. But Snider has always had a hands on approach.

Listened to the Montreal post game after their loss in Ottawa last night. Incredible chaos in the Montreal fan base and media. Appears to be open warfare between Subban camp and others in Montreal dressing room. Fans and media accuse coach and management of not supporting Subban. Good chance he is going to be on the move.

If you could make the trade in your fantasy pool do you deal Giroux for Subban?

I said the coaching move was ill timed when it happened. Now I think Berube was a horrible decision. I think this team is getting worse and has less direction than before.

Not sure what else the coach can do at this point. Absolutely he should replace Gill and Mez with Gus and Schenn but until the players realize that the only way to get out of this is to dig down and out work the other team, nithing is going to change.

The Flyers have had some bad teams before, but I have never in 40+ years seen them ice a team this lacking in heart and competetiveness. They are truly painful to watch and its getting really hard to still give a damn.

Nobody in the market for Giroux right now in fantasy. In real life, he is signed at $8 mil+ for 8 years. Not exactly easy to move.

The players aren't blameless but management is just as at fault for not firing Lavi sooner.

That said the mix on defense is the worst money can buy.

The whole org is to blame for this... From snider and his impatience all the way down to the players. These guys are playing like they want out of here. I say bring in another gm to start making their wishes come true.

This team and management organization wont work their way out of this on their own. They are wholely (if thats a word) to blame from top to bottom.
Players should know enough to make good passes and keep their feet moving no matter who is wearing the tie behind them. Its stinks at the top too with all the ill fated over spending moves and always tinkering
This team IS NOT the 1980 Islanders who needed only the one missing piece in Butch Goring to get it done and start their dynasty.
Ed and Homer used star power and big $$ signings to mask the stink in the offseason with signing Vinny, Streit and Emery.

One level headed fan posted earlier the team is too good and its just mental

I doubt that with Giroux.

He had surgery on both wrists after the 2012 playoffs and while relatively healthy last year, is obviously struggling and playing soft with his strange golf injury tendon tear. He could be done or this could be a year to recover if ever at all. A small guy with no hands and middling speed, he is getting top 5 money and playing like a slightly more gifted Max Talbot who cannot finish at all and wont go in the corners. Giroux in his current physical and mental state is not worth more than Adam Hall

Flyers fans are past getting angry. They're starting to get apathetic. The Flyers are turning into the Oakland Raiders of the NHL.

Fully expecting a trade and possible GM change today. This team is out of options.
