HockeyCentral just mentioned that the Flyers are talking to the Oilers about Eberle.

I suppose that everyone could be talking to the Oil about Eberle, but holy cow. What could the Flyers possibly give for Eberle?

Correct me if im wrong, but the last time the flyers were in the playoffs(NJ in2012) the goal that actually eliminated them was when bryz tried to play the puck and shot it off of clarkson and went right into the net. Who cares about the shutout streak.

Someone is reporting to Hockey Central that the Flyers are hot on Jordan Eberle.

Please don't trade our picks or Laughton, just please don't trade our picks or Laughton.

For everyone talking about bringing someone from outside the organization in to be GM, you have to realize that at the moment this is the way the Flyers are viewed as from the outside:

Having Bryz here took a lot of the attention away from the myriad of issues this team has. If he were still here there would be a ton of people blaming the goalie as they always do.

Thing is, all of these issues we are seeing now have been creeping in and out of this team for the last 4 seasons. It seems now that they have creeped to the forefront at the same time now.

Not having Bryz here just allows everyone to focus on the real issues at hand.

This team has over valued its assets, starting with the captain all the way down.

I feel they overpaid Giroux, and that is going to bite them in the ass. They overpaid Timonen, thank god that is for one season only. They overpaid Streit, Hartnell. Simmonds.

They traded JVR for a defenseman, which they needed, but it was for the wrong type of defenseman.

They made some swing for the fences attempts to get Suter, Parise, and Weber. The Weber thing almost worked, but it seems everyone but them knew it was folly going after Suter and Parise, and in the process it cost them Carle and Jagr.

As for Weber, I would trade Couturier and Schenn for him in a heartbeat with the benefit of hindsight.

This team does not play as a team. They play as a collection of parts. They have play stupid listless hockey. Their best players are not being their best players, and their best players aren't as good as we think they are. And NONE of them, from the Captain on down is worth what they are being paid. I would have said that before all this happened.

Even that I could deal with.....but it seems as if they all got their money and have decided to mail it in. At least act like you care...do something out there!

I know, but I can't give up and just run out the kids on this team and watch them flounder and the team lose. What good does that do? This team blows right now and if you're sitting in the press box that should speak volumes.

I didn't think this team could make the playoffs before the season but I can't throw in the towel at the 15 game mark and go all sink or swim with the younger players for the rest of the year. And it's not like Gus and L. Schenn are all that young.

- mayorofangrytown

yea but the pressure of constantly making mistakes can ruin their confidence
some time to clear their minds (esp Schenn) might be for the best
or schenn is a keystone to a deal with a team right now and we want to keep him healthy

Yea, though a center plus Simmonds could be gone. Simmonds to me is the perfect player to add to a team making a push. I wish we could just wait till the trade deadline because we have lots of good pieces, they just dont mesh well together.

Eberle... Edmonton needs a Defensive defenseman and a goalie. Not sure we can out bid other teams for him but it might cost us Couturier in the deal.

A few people on the board feel Flyers "just don't have the talent" to score in this league and I just refuse to believe that.

Look at the roster the Flyers lost to last night. I don't care that the Devils have Jagr. Cam Janssen scored a goal last night. CAM JANSSEN. And by the way, if Peter Harrold can handle 18 min of ice time as a defenseman and finish a game with a 0 +/- then so can most of the defenseman on the Flyers roster, honestly.

Flyers aren't losing because they're missing a Jaromir Jagr or a Patrick Elias. They're losing because their best players (who should be scoring and have proved in the past that they are more than capable of doing so) just aren't doing it. Maybe it is the coaching. Maybe it's the wrong mix of players, as previously mentioned by others on the board.

But there is plenty of offensive talent on this team.

- mcefalu

Perhaps I don't understand the "talent" argument. I'm being totally serious. Maybe I'm not using the right terminology when I say that the team doesn't have enough talent.

They're averaging 1.47 goals per game. They finished 25th in even-strength scoring last year.

Maybe instead of saying they just don't have the talent to score, maybe I should say other teams are more talented?

I'm being totally serious. If there's a better word, or definition, to describe what we're doing, I would be happy to use that, because I do feel that the problem lies with the actual players who are not doing the scoring, and would use that term to describe it in comparison to other teams that are doing it better than we are.

Yea thats why I dont really question the effort. The expressions on their faces after the games shows you they are giving all they got, again for the majority of guys, and its not working. To me thats worse then saying "Yea I screwed up on that play, my head wasn't in the game." But these guys are pressing with no results. Its hard to expect all that effort everytime when theres no positive reinforcement at the end.
- aosplayo

over passing at times is trying too hard in my mind. Some of these guys need to be selfish and shoot. They need to drive the net and battle for rebounds. at one point there was a puck it the skates of a devil player last night in front of the blue paint and I was just begging for the 2 Flyers in front to know the devil on his ass and take the puck and score. but instead they just fished for it and the Devils took the puck the other way. so frustrating. I don't think they are battling hard enough but its more about a lack of confidence than not caring.

Hmmm...perhaps that is the real value in Bryz not being here any more. Can't pretend that everything is just fine and "if we just had goaltending" we'd be golden.

Great observation.

Thank you.

You'd think if they traded for him he'd play wing on the first line. He's usually a solid defensive forward and can definitely put the puck in the net.

I'd love to see him playing with Giroux for the nest 5-8 years. The asking price will be high.

I have a crick in my neck here at work. My eyes are sore from crying myself to sleep after the game last night.
And I apparently need a life which does not revolve around hockey or work...

Going to go spend some time with my hot-ass fiancee tonight... And put some time into gaming...

EDIT: Some of this post might be an exageration.

Yea, Giroux definately froze towards the end of the 3rd in a situation like you described. That lack of confidence can be paralyzing.

Schenn for Grossmann and Couturier for the first ? plus you'll get nothing for the second ? I'd think.
