Nothing against Mason but the Oilers would never take a guy like Mason for a potential superstar in time. Mason past history still make him suspect in my opinion. If Yak was truly available for Mason I would do it in a heartbeat. There are lots of goalies available who are nhl ready that are in the AHL. Martin Jones for one is a capable starter who will never get a chance in LA.

I wouldn't. Mason has been the best player on the Flyers by a far margin. Yakupov is another kid who may or may not live up to his potential, and we're already loaded with that type of player. And if reliable goalies are so easy to find, especially for the Flyers, what was that Bryz deal all about and why has it taken so long to find what looks like a legit young starter?

I won't comment on the Flyers play just wanted to say its great to see Fred Shero get inducted , his influence on the game was remarkable.

My point being was that he had a talent for getting the components what was needed and getting rid of those components he could sacrifice and IMO would have been able to do so in a Salary Cap environment

This is going to be my new motto, so get used to hearing it. Some people think all young players are like eggs. Sit on them long enough and Wayne Gretzky will hatch and all your problems are solved.

Point being, if your patient with the wrong players, they will still be the wrong players after a few years.

When we traded for BSchenn, it looked like he could be a more offensive Mike Richards... but now we realize he doesn't have a great defensive game, and his offense isnt there either. He will likely be a career 2nd line player.

When we drafted Couturier, we thought with his combo of defense ability, and the offense he showed in juniors he could be like Joe Thornton, or at least Jordan Staal. Well 3 years later and there is no offense. He will likely either be a 2nd or 3rd line Center.

The point being, these guys, while you need 2nd and 3rd line players, should not stop you from making moves to aquire players that can be more.

as far as Schenn vs Richards go, remember, it wasn't Schenn for Richards. it was Richards for depth in Schenn, Simmonds and a pick which was included in a deal to get Grossmann. Richards was my fave player so it saddened me to move him but overall productions since the move. Schenn 116 games 23-28-51, Simmonds 142 games 44-42-86 and Richards 137 33-54-87. I don't look at it as Schenn for Richards

I don't know, and won't speculate on specifics. But I do think he tried to couch whatever he said in encouraging terms because Giroux's getting battered around enough as it is.

Outside of Mason, the money spent most wisely this year is the millions to tell Bryzgalov to pound salt.

Unfortunately, we'll never know if he would have been able to operate within the constructs of a salary cap, so all we're really left with is conjecture and opinions.

Sounds to me like we need someone like the Fog to get in this current teams head.

I have never seen a team top to bottom play with such little energy. They obviously don't care about what they are doing out there. It starts with the Captain all the way down.

I meant the made up controversy that has nothing to do with the on-ice product that our local beats seem addicted to, to the exclusion of actual discussion of the sport. The discussion of the quote from Max, if you read the actual quote, is indeed a mountain out of a molehill. You'd have thought he'd excoriated team mates personally and individually.

I love Hexy but I love the Flyers more and want to see my team competitive and exciting again. Watching that game last night was like my wife forcing me to watch one of those angsty Teen vampire movies without the hot vampire chicks. Slow, dreadful and painful.

He was gone from the Flyers organization for 7 years.

Did his Flyerish ways hold him back in that gig?

2 years ago we traded our captain and best goal scorer for unproven kids, and look how well that worked for us

i still think couts and schenn were rushed into the nhl but CAN become good players; i often forget how young they are. even simmonds can get back to the form he showed at times here. i am so frustrated i go between "trade everybody" and "ride it out" about once every 5 minutes

Keep the kids and Mason, see about moving everybody else before the TDL. The only vet I'd hesitate to move unless the return was significant would be Coburn.
