Great write up gunner , I agree completely. Although i thought Megna looked at least ok , which was unlike every other Penguin last night. Malkin looked completely lost like he forgot how to work hard ?

I agree that Martin is more of a lock than Orpik.

I don't think it would be outrageous if Orpik was left off the team but it would be if Jack Johnson made it over him.

- Ryan_Wilson

Well hate to break it to you but he has Jack Johnson as a lock.

Lebrun has Martin as a lock for team USA and listed Orpik as looking good. Thoughts? I'd agree with that.
- dbell646

Very interesting, I would have thought it would be the opposite.

They are both deserving. Brooks brings more to the table than just his on-ice skills.

He's a lock to underachieve. His sample size is large enough to show that

Megna has been very good for the role that he needs to play. I am very impressed and feel he has earned a long term stay.

I feel like he has earned a stay, he's definitely played better than Jeffrey (and a few other guys on our team for that matter). I mean, you know your bad when Derrek Engellend is getting looks at 4th line RW before you...Unfortunately for Megna, with a healthy Pens roster, I just don't see him playing in front of guys like Adams, Vitale, or Glass

I do see him playing in front of Kobasew and D'Agostini on the third line though.

For the period I watched, the Pens were just getting dominated in the neutral zone. Every puck carrier was getting squeezed into the wall with two defenders on them. Rangers had the breakout completely covered for long stretches.

Though I agree I think somewhere in time he stole your girlfriend or something. He's come up thru the team USA ranks and don't forget he's crosbys best friend

I think Orpik, Martin, and Johnson all skate for team USA

I agree with much of what was said in the blog but it should be mentioned that the D was also looking pressured and swimming in seaweed most of the night. Out of position too. Rangers were in 5th gear and we were in 2nd. Unlike vs. Boston. Too me this was a mental letdown of some sort. Long layoff? Dunno.

I know the defensive system will have it's problems but I am hoping for consistency.
Megna was solid. No one else I can think of was near as solid. Even Adams struggled at times, very uncharacteristic.

I fail to see how his relationship with Sid and his inclusion or exclusion from Team USA are at all correlated.

Maybe a secret handshake? Dunno.

Good observation, we were frequently out numbered and outworked.

It was a typical display of how to beat the Penguins. Credit to AV for recognizing what his team needed to change and then making a quick adjustment.

Obviously there were many variables.....especially the injury situation and the putrid play of a couple of the "fill-ins" (DJ i'm looking at you), but when most are holding their breath waiting for MAF to fail come playoff time, I'll be holding my breath to see how this team deals with the neutral zone trap.

The Rangers did a great job of forcing the D to carry the puck all the way up, taking away the lanes and then cutting them off at the pass with numbers leaving no outlets. We needed some more support underneath the puck. More short passes and support from the forwards. The effort to win the boards battles at the blue lines wasn't there either.

EDIT: It was a very rangers game. They got the first goal against the run of play and then clamped down and we got frustrated and stupid.
