They mention that Giroux is now an 8 mil guy who is the guy we look to to get us out of this downward spiral.

Im gong to say something ive never said but I would rather watch the commercials during the Oregon vs Stanford game tonight than watch the Flyers/Devs game. Im going to watch because its in my DNA and its what I do but DAMN!!!
- KINGKENZO

I think the reason the older crowd (if they haven't given up after the 1994-95, 2004-05, or 2012-13 lockouts) can withstand this is because they saw what 1967-1972 looked like.

You know, I hate seeing them this bad.. Hate it. However, I will never give up on them.. I also will never cheer for them to lose.. even for the sake of a better pick when they are out of it.. (see last year).. I guess it's just against my makeup. I really hope that they can find a way to get back to respectability this year...

I always try to go with... well Mason looks like our #1 guy going forward.

I was going to submit that nitpick, but the point does still hold: The Flyers have made the commitment to Giroux as the keystone to this team. They really are relying on him to be a catalyst for success, regardless of when the big contract actually starts.

William H Macy would eat PSH for lunch and poop him out before dinner.

BTW I love Shameless.

- youarewrong

I like PSH, but William H. Macy gets my Hall of Fame vote for the work he did in "Boogie Nights".

Lets see how much people really like this team.... And be honest with yourself. Would you be for, or against the idea of the NHL redrafting all players, and Hextall would be the GM drafting for the Flyers. So next years team would not have any of these guys....

Maybe because of the mere fact that he has signed it going forward...I think that's what they are suggesting...

Has Flyers management ever addressed how they see Couturier's and B. Schenn's future?

With the signing of Vinny (which I think was a good move, btw), you have the top two centre spots locked in for the next 5 years.

Sure, you can always switch guys to the wing - but I'm just wondering if the question was asked of Holmgren when he signed Vinny?

- Atomic Wedgie

because neither schenn nor cooter can pick up the slack required to take the next step in the nhl
giroux has also shown this year he cannot carry the team so vinny was needed

Yes, but to be fair this isn't a new insight.

The Devils have been under-spending them for decades and basically eating the Flyers lunch in the process.

Just as in the broken education system in this country, money isn't the answer.

Not a nitpick..I am glad someone clarified.. I didn't have time to confirm it.. I think your second sentence is where they were headed with the comment..

My answer is: Donald Sutherland.

They need a "Best Performance of 5 Minutes or Less" Academy Award.

Sutherland in Backdraft - oh boy, still gives me the creeps.

Um, no.

But... would I love an expansion draft that would give them an opportunity to leave guys like Hartsy, Streit dangling in the wind? You betcha.

You act as if the Hartnell and Streit contracts are albatrosses. Or is the plural of albatross, albatri?

This from the guy who said other unsubstantiated claims about JVR, such as that JVR was faking injuries to avoid a trade.

They started relying on him to be a catalyst for success when they decided to dump Richie and Carts... and gave him the 'C'... the extension has symbolic significance, but reality is that this was his team long before ink hit paper.

"live with" ???

We'll get to read such treats as "this team really sucks" and "I'm gonna watch a real team like the Sharks" for those "few years."

I would definitely be fine with this if it ended up being the plan by the mid point of this year, but I don't think Snider would accept it. That's why it's hard to get hopes up that they'll correct their mistakes, because at this point in his life Snider has no patience.

I think the idea was to let Vinny move to wing once coots was ready for 2C duties. Either that or swap them if Vinny's play declines due to age.
