At 22, David Backes was a Peoria Riverman.
At 22, Ryan Kesler mustered 16 pts in 48 NHL games.
At 22, David Krejci was a Providence Bruin.
At 22, Pavel Datsyuk was still in Russia.
At 22, Mikko Koivu was a Houston Aero.

I'm not saying that B Schenn's guaranteed to be as good as any of those guys, but let's get some perspective. There are no shortage of GM's around the league that are just licking their chops at the possibility that Homer runs out of patience on Schenn (or Coots) just because he hasn't been a world-beater yet at 22.

At 22, Ryan Kesler also got a fat contract offer from GM Bob Clarke.

All we do is face team's backup goalies and still can't score.

The Flyers are the most uncreative, predictable and sort of going-through-the-motions hockey team I've ever seen. No team has more looks blocked/deflected or just plain snuffed out than this Flyers team.

I've never seen so many sort of futile stick check lunges on other teams puck carriers as well as pathetic fly-bys. The last time this team actually fought for every inch of ice was the 1st period against the Ducks.

I have been a Flyers fan for a long time. Between the 2006 season, and this season, I see no real difference. Yes, this season is still young, but I can only see this type of play becoming routine. When the fans have more passion than the players do, then maybe it's time for me to quit following the team for the rest of the season. It has been painful to watch the team this year. I excuse some of last seasons play due to injuries, and a jammed packed schedule. However, there is no excuse for their play this season. A lesson for the future GM is to never give out long term contracts, and never over pay for a player. There are only 3 team players worth watching: Vinny, Hal Gill, and Mason. Fire the rest of them. Actually, make them pay back their salaries, and void their contracts.
Shame on the Flyers for putting such a bad team on the ice. Now I think that I will go cry in my glass of milk, just like the team captain. It won't solve anything, but at least I can say that I tried to watch the Flyers this season.

Ill watch the rest of the season but ill be thinking of the 2014 draft the whole time!

i know you aren't trying to do this but talk about damning him with faint praise.....i just see him folding under pressure as in missing an open net last week that would have been a huge goal, and just letting puck go through him alone in the slot last game. was it a perfect pass? no. should a top 9 forward in the nhl be able to take that pass and get off a high quality chance? i think so. i also think when he was brought here his projected talent level had him burying those types of opportunities consistently. again, maybe unfair but he is not living up to the hype about him that preceded the richards trade

I have WAY more of an issue with Hartnell, G, Jake, and even Simmonds and Vinny despite their point totals than Couturier (137 NHL games) and Schenn (124 games).

Hey, I'm always one to say that Clarkie wasn't great with young talent (just check his draft record), but he got that one right. Except for the part where he didn't sign Kesler, of course.

I hate how Laviolette used him. One of the biggest reasons I am glad that he got fired. The way Berube is using him is how he should have been used last year. Seeing more PP time, playing with better wingers, being encouraged after a mistake, rather than seeing his ice time limited.

Last season, Couturier looked scared to make a mistake with the puck. You played scared, you're going to make a mistake.

On the contrary, isn't this one of the things that Ron Hextall is supposed to concentrating on while he measures for new drapes in Paul Holmgren's office?

Hope this answers the question:

CBA Summary of terms:

“No Move/No Trade Clauses that are negotiated as part of a contract extension may become effective immediately upon execution of, but prior to the effectiveness of, the extension contract, provided:
a) The Player is otherwise currently eligible to have a No Move/No Trade Clause, and
b) The Club with whom the contract extension is entered into agrees to make the No Move/No Trade Clause effective immediately upon execution of the extension contract.”

- aantny88

Lawyers have far too much time on their hands. So reading that it's a "maybe"...
My understanding was that on the whole a NTC/ NMC kicks in at signing with the new CBA...
Of course there are always loopholes...

They just lost Primeau to retirement, and it was literally like days before training camp was starting, so it was part prescience, but also part desperation on Clarkie's part.

I remember how pissed Nonis was and the general outcry about how offering a 4th-line C $1.9M was going to inflate salaries across the board... lol, so funny in retrospect.

Is one not to feel negative when the Flyers are the worst team in the league and haven't won a cup in 38 years. Besides its rainy out.

The most aggravating thing is that they have been, with the exception of the Caps game, in every single game. They have gone into the third period, in most games, either tied or down by 1.

If they were simply getting the doors blown off every night, it'd be different.

- Jsaquella

On the scoreboard they were "in" those games but really, based on play they mostly weren't. Mason saved their bacon most nights. Their record fairly represents the quality of their play.
