I imagine the reason Flyers fans drink so much is because their tears dilute the alcohol in their drinks, so they pound their beverage to make up for it. Man was Page 1 like reading the Book of Lamentations. Surprised I didn't see a post from Jeremiah.

This thread is classic Negadelphia. (frank) all that poop. They are opening the floodgates tonight. Flyers will score 4+ goals. Book it. As long as the D can keep their floodgates shut, we'll see the "We Win" pic.

I think they are going to win tonight as well but lets be real, they haven't given fans very much to be optimistic about

I wish I shared this attitude right now. Tell you what, if they win and score at least three goals, you get a big bag of "I told you so's" to hand out, on me.

I should've used my sarcasm smiley in my Brodeur post. I'll be rooting for the Flyers, as I did in 2006-07 and 1989-90 to 1993-94.

As I have said here before, I'm a fan of the team, not their record. Here's hoping the floodgates open tonight. I hope Chief passed out copies of the book "Hockey Tough" recently.

It's the same anywhere.

I do think that the JvR blowback is, at least, partly the return the Flyers got. I like Luke Schenn, and I think he played great last year, but I see the issues that Leafs fans mentioned. JvR has played far more consistently as a Leaf than as a Flyer, and the early returns are that the Flyers made a bad deal in both value for an asset and in terms of filling a need.

- Jsaquella

I guess it's a running theme with me now, but I think it's too early to judge the JVR trade. Schenn is 6 months younger than JVR and we all know that D men take longer to hit their prime than forwards, even power-forward types...but that doesn't stop some from concluding the trade was a bust. Schenn is in the doghouse...accountability and all that...he's going through a tough lesson here now...let's see how this plays out...I believe Schenn is a gamer and can be a valuable part fo the team's core..he, like many others needs some more time for development and maturation. Another factor is that it's easier to quantify JVR's performance, you can see the production and make a reasonable evaluation, whereas with a D man like Schenn, a guy who isn't going to light up the scoreboard, it's harder to assess the value he's bringing...I still have faith in the guy...I hope the Flyers do as well. If they can swing a trade that brings in an upgrade, so be it, but I'm cool with being patient with a guy who should be a key part of making the Flyers a tough team to play against in coming years.

funny enough what people seem to forget is that Schenn is actually tied with Vinny and Giroux for 7 points leading the team in scoring
- nastyflyergirl

i know you aren't trying to do this but talk about damning him with faint praise.....i just see him folding under pressure as in missing an open net last week that would have been a huge goal, and just letting puck go through him alone in the slot last game. was it a perfect pass? no. should a top 9 forward in the nhl be able to take that pass and get off a high quality chance? i think so. i also think when he was brought here his projected talent level had him burying those types of opportunities consistently. again, maybe unfair but he is not living up to the hype about him that preceded the richards trade

I'm disappointed I can't find a Craig Berube flipping a switch gif for mine. I have no photoshop/imagery expertise to do it myself.

- Flyskippy

Need a Craig berube spit gif. He had a strategically placed spit behind the bench immediately after Carolina's game winner. That pretty much sums it up

yes, you're right: 4+ tonight and 2 or less for the next month of games. i think we all hoped that the 5 goal outburst was the start of something resembling a good team. i'm sorry it didn't last

It's too early to render a final grade, but the early returns are not promising.

I realize Schenn can and likely will get better. But I doubt anyone outside the Schenn family feels he will end up fulfilling the Adam Foote comparisons, and will probably plateau as a good, second pair defenseman, who plays physical and provides grit.

That's not a bad thing, but if JvR becomes a consistent 30 goal power forward, the Flyers simply didn't get enough for him. Not only that, they had a far more pressing need at the time of the trade, with the only two mobile defensemen that had above average puck skills were a 36 year old Timonen and Matt Carle, who would hit UFA status in a week.

Part of my issues with the Flyers under Holmgren is a repeated failure to maximize assets.

My concern with B Schenn is that he will be 22 by the end of the season. If you stick with him into next year, and he doesn't make some big strides, his trade value will quickly start to drop. That's why I'd be ok with moving him in a deal for a top pair dman.

At 22, David Backes was a Peoria Riverman.
At 22, Ryan Kesler mustered 16 pts in 48 NHL games.
At 22, David Krejci was a Providence Bruin.
At 22, Pavel Datsyuk was still in Russia.
At 22, Mikko Koivu was a Houston Aero.

I'm not saying that B Schenn's guaranteed to be as good as any of those guys, but let's get some perspective. There are no shortage of GM's around the league that are just licking their chops at the possibility that Homer runs out of patience on Schenn (or Coots) just because he hasn't been a world-beater yet at 22.

I have been a Flyers fan for a long time. Between the 2006 season, and this season, I see no real difference. Yes, this season is still young, but I can only see this type of play becoming routine. When the fans have more passion than the players do, then maybe it's time for me to quit following the team for the rest of the season. It has been painful to watch the team this year. I excuse some of last seasons play due to injuries, and a jammed packed schedule. However, there is no excuse for their play this season. A lesson for the future GM is to never give out long term contracts, and never over pay for a player. There are only 3 team players worth watching: Vinny, Hal Gill, and Mason. Fire the rest of them. Actually, make them pay back their salaries, and void their contracts.
Shame on the Flyers for putting such a bad team on the ice. Now I think that I will go cry in my glass of milk, just like the team captain. It won't solve anything, but at least I can say that I tried to watch the Flyers this season.

Thinking of ways the Flyers loose tonight, I came up with:

1-1 tie going into the third. Flyers of PP and Timo gets caught up with the puck (again) and Henrique is off to the races. Timo hooks him and he gets the Penalty Shot. I know what your thinking, he scores on the shot, but your wrong. Mason stones him cold. Faceoff ensures and Devils kill of PP and send Jagr out of the box on the breakaway to score the game winner.
