i agree. i edited my post to address this. i kind of meant that maybe they should have been there all along getting better and that mgmt miscalculated the readiness of the team to contend (and poss the players readiness for the nhl?) when they were brought up

Not sure I agree. Couturier made the team as a rookie. He was one of the best players in camp. Nobody was complaining during his rookie year, and he's still a very good defensive player. But he's going to have ups and downs.

This season, over the past 10 games or so, is really the first time the Flyers have really given Couturier a chance to play regular minutes with offensively skilled wingers. Before he'd get a few games with a guy like Read or Simmonds, but for the most part, it's been Talbot and Rinaldo.

I have concerns about his ability to score, but now we finally get to see an extended run with better wingers to have a better idea.

He seems a lot stronger on the puck this season than in the past... I think his game will really round out once he grows into his frame. The other thing that will come with time is losing the juniors-level tendency to hold on to the puck too long... he has to be quicker and more decisive with it.

Same goes for B Schenn, too.

I still maintain that the Flyers have two really good prospects in-hand... expectations of them, from both management and fans, have just been pretty unrealistic.

I agree both are good prospects, and that expectations are unrealistic...or at least the timetables have been.

It's funny on twitter that people lambast the Flyers for trading JvR & not having patience and turn around a minute later saying they need to trade Couturier. I'm open to trading anyone if it makes the team better, but Couturier and Schenn need to be sold high, if at all.

Changing tack to the more serious, the inability to see the self-hypocrisy on Twitter sort of turned me off. I'll head over there later today but man did you hit the nail on the head. They cry for JVR like King David did Absalom & turn around wanting to give away Couturier and/or Schenn instead of letting them find their way here.

And then watch as they bring in more dead wood to immediately replace it?

Gotta love buying out Bryz and Briere and immediately dumping that money in one player that can't stay healthy, and another that has been mostly invisible (except for when he turns the puck over in OT as last man back).

yes well it is hard to say. i think he did really well as a rookie and this ramped up expectations for him that may have been impossible to live up to. the flyers have consistently mishandled young players and i'm afraid this may be another case. i really hope i'm wrong

I agree on Couturier. You can tell he's stronger and more confident w/the puck. I wish offensively he'd be a little more patient w/it on his stick and take it to the net (hell I wish all of the players would go to the net). I think he's waiting to break out. Something bothers me about Schenn, not sure what it is, I still see him cheat a bit and lose some puck battles.

It's the same anywhere.

I do think that the JvR blowback is, at least, partly the return the Flyers got. I like Luke Schenn, and I think he played great last year, but I see the issues that Leafs fans mentioned. JvR has played far more consistently as a Leaf than as a Flyer, and the early returns are that the Flyers made a bad deal in both value for an asset and in terms of filling a need.

But right now, if I'm trading Schenn or Couturier, the return had better be a guy with the potential to be a top line sniper or a top pair defenseman

I know the Flyers view McGinn as a top 6 or bust player but I see no reason why the kid can't play on the 3rd or 4th line.

This will be another 2 - 1 game that will likely look like the last 2 - 1 game.

Which looked like the 1 - 0 game before that one.

I hate how Laviolette used him. One of the biggest reasons I am glad that he got fired. The way Berube is using him is how he should have been used last year. Seeing more PP time, playing with better wingers, being encouraged after a mistake, rather than seeing his ice time limited.

Last season, Couturier looked scared to make a mistake with the puck. You played scared, you're going to make a mistake.
