I would give McKegg a try, said it a couple of times, give him a taste. - LeafMan
Can't understand what's up with McKegg...........he was a 50 goal scorer in junior, and he's 21 now.............why isnt he on everyones next superstar (ie Kadri) list! What's up with that!? |

Yeah because it's so hard to notice they have two different playing styles.
I follow a lot of prospects and have seen Coots since his junior days so I think I'd know a thing or two about him.
I'm referring to JVR as an example of a player struggling on a team and excelling on another. Just because Coots has struggled the last 2 years as the whole team as doesn't mean he's going to be a 3rd line centre. Heck, I'm sure you thought of JVR and Kadri the exact same when they struggled and now you love them.
And if you're blaming the ENTIRE Flyers team struggles because Coots has 3 assists you're utterly foolish. - peddy-93
I would love Coots on this team. The issue i have with acquiring another centre is, what happens when all ours come back? Could Bozak or someone move to the wing then. We would have a logjam and have to deal with that somehow. |

not a whole lot of talent on marlies thats upper eche
i think mckegg could easily do a third line role for 10 games. |

you would just sit smith in the press box and play kadri, couturier, bozak, mcclement until bolland comes back, then when he does shift mcclement to the wing. |

his skating isnt superstar at the pro level
he'll make it as a second or third line grinder type
good hockey instincts tho |

I wonder if Bolland will even make it back
If we aquire another centre, that surely means Bolland wont be resigned next season. |

If we find a better centre, trade Bozak and re-up with Bolland... |

i dunno, i think theyd keep bozie and move mcclement to wing (assuming all of them are re-signed) because it would provide more depth for if something like this happens again |

limited.. seems to be the theme these days.. as long as the player has some say in where they go they dont mind leaving that door open |

I feel like you need to go back and read posts 3 or 4 times so you understand what people are trying to say before you begin to respond.
I clearly stated "one" of the reasons, and that somehow translated into you thinking I said the ENTIRE flyers team. Obviously not the case.
I was just pointing out that couturiers lack of development shouldn't be overlooked just because the team is struggling.
I was simply pointing out that Couturier Having 0 goals and 3 assists in 14 games, is PART of the reason the flyers are struggling. They simply need more for him.
Now without changing the topic and circumstances, and bringing up other players that aren't even relevant to this (Kadri ^).
Do you really think Couturier is developing into anything more then a third line center?

If Holmgren gives Nonis the slightest notion that Couturier is available, chase it down. |

Wild, wacky, outside of the box thought here, but what about trying Kulemin as our #3 centre?
He's a good two-way player. Tough on the boards. Willing to take a hit.
Push McClement up to #2 until Blozak returns, and hope that Kadri wows us.
It's not a recipe for a Stanley Cup, but it may just be enough to keep us afloat until the end of November.
Remember: we don't have any cap wiggle room. - Atomic Wedgie

1- I'm using Kadri as a reference because he didn't have a great development early on and people were jumping on his throat, now he is what he is and everyone loves him (my point here being that you never project a prospect on what he'll be because of a 'slower' development).
2- Couturier was regarded to be a top 3 pick in his draft class but slipped to 8th and was considered a steal. Now that doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be a great player because we know there are draft picks that don't work out, even high ones.
But Coots is a very coachable player, still has a ton of potential and you can ask many scouts on that, and he is a reliable 2 way forward and ya his offense hasn't been there but he is 20 years old. I hate using comparisons but he's a bergeron-esque player.
And to me, he's the perfect centre for the Leafs. Despite his struggles this year. |
