Please stop with the Miller to Anaheim garbage. He's not that much of an upgrade on Jonas Hiller and Freddie Anderson has been awesome. The Ducks don't need Ryan Miller. They need a top pairing defenseman. Any team want to trade one of those?

Miller is far better than Hiller

I could see Girardi. But I don't see how he gets moved and just figures it out and starts lighting it up. I don't think he would have any better offensive players in NY to help him get going then he does in EDM, especially with Nash out. The thing I question is that yea he might of led rookies but it wasn't a regular sample size because of the lockout and now he isn't doing well. That would put doubt in GM's minds. Who is to say he wouldn't have cooled right off like he has this year and went on a 15-20 games scoreless drought at the end of the season had it been a full 82? Now I know that is a what if thought but I think that teams just haven't got a large enough sample size of him to give up such assets and him not work out. I also think that by the sounds of what everyone is reporting it would seem like EDM might be the ones more desperate to pull a move then say the Rangers or whoever else is rumored to be involved. I get the feeling the Oil think they need to make a bold move soon to make a statement to the fan base where as the Rangers might have started slow but they still have Henrik and he is picking his game up and can give the Rangers a play off birth on his own where EDM is desperate for the playoffs and doesn't have a go to guy yet to carry them on their back to a play off birth. Could just be me rambling on but meh
- blizzzard

he did it last year. he played pretty well for the first ten. went silent and looked lost for a solid 15 games and then just clicked and went on a tear.
snipers get hot and cold. it's what they do.

and the oilers might be more in need, but I don't think they'll get fleeced to try and make the playoffs. its almost out of reach already. what would be the point of making a questionable move just to add to ateam that already has a slim chance?
a real playoff shot slowly slipping away around the deadline is much more plausible that they panic. but this isnt the case with edm. any move will be as much long term as it is short.

and it doesn't really matter if the have henrik. if management thinks they are missing THIS piece to take another step, but have ANOTHER piece thats expendable, they do it. there's no guarantee no matter what goalie you have in net.

and that's just it. if you feel he is what you thought, u strike when his price isn't astronomical. it's chicken and the egg. if he goes on to score 40 next year and quiet the doubters, not only does his value go up exponentially, he might just flat out be off the market.

I look at tyler myers and see this kind of thing.
we saw him dominate early and then struggle abit.
some people think its too much a gamble to acquire him, even with his value much lower. and to wait.
but if he even gets close to where he was (which I believe he will) he wont be had for anything less than your left nut

Might have missed the boat to comment here.

It's too early to make a giant shakeup of the oil; we haven't even played a game with the whole roster intact yet. Maybe if we are in last come trade deadline then maybe.

a rebuild for the oilers again ?
- todd1a

What do you mean "again"? They're currently in Year 4 of the rebuild.

PIT rebuild took 2001-2008 before they made the Cup final, picking up two 1sts (MAF, Crosby) and two 2nds overall (Malkin, J Staal) in drafts prior.

CHI rebuild took 2002-2009 before making the WCF. Seabrook, Bufglyien, Bolland, Towes, and Kane all through the draft.

A key point other than high drafts picks was both teams' ability to attract quality veteran players to play key roles on the team.

I'm not saying the Oilers are a couple years away from glory but it does take time to do a full rebuild.

Don't follow the Rangers prospects closely. What's Miller's upside?
- Nucker101

late but miller is a 2-way forward, gritty but skilled, with top-6 potential. think brandon dubinsky with more offensive upside or mike richards with less offensive upside. NHL ready.

best thing about the kid is that he has confidence and isn't afraid to try to make a play. a lot of kids, like kreider until recently, are tentative and give up the puck right when they get it to avoid making a mistake. miller takes the puck, holds onto it, and tries to dance around a guy or make a play some other way rather than just passing it off right away.

The Oilers drafted the best player available. That gives them
the best potential for trade value down the road.

I don't think they trade him because he is under performing.
Wouldn't most people realize this is way too early to write him off.
I don't get the logic. He scores 17 goals last year. This year he is
in a slump and his defensive game is brutal therefore he is a bust.
Yes not many GM's would take him for the current asking price.
But if YAK starts to produce it could be interesting.

I might be in the minority but I would prefer YAK to start scoring
and solidify trade value and then trade him for a defenseman.

It's not about giving up on the kid. It's about building a winning team.
Given the Oilers history its unlikely.

Although I strongly feel the Oil are underachieving so far this year and should be in a position to compete for a playoff spot this year.
No more excuses.

Watch the games son, he is not a defensively sound player and it isn`t a function of experience, it seems to be conscious mental decisions to not skate, to not put forth the effort. I really like Yakupov actually, he is an electrifying player at times.

I also can recognize value when I see it though, and I manage risk all day long. At this particular moment in time the downside risk of Yakupov is MUCH higher than the upside.

When making decisions (in life, finance, and everywhere else) unsuccessful people always look at the two POSITIVE outcomes of that decision. Successful people look at the two NEGATIVE outcomes...and choose the least negative.

I think I would make a pretty good GM actually, but I`m not willing to drop so many payscales.

Wow. That last line of yours just permanently put you on par with BSteinley AKA HallFan on so many levels. Why would a millionaire even be on this site when he should out being a millionaire ?

did you just drop how much money you make on hockeybuzz?
next you'll be telling the strangers on hockeybuzz how many hot girls you bang.

painfully transparent. you're either full of it, or a super douche. either way, i don't envy it.

and ur entitled to your opinion, just like I have mine.
i read through the oilers threads all the time and i have my opinions on who understands the game and who doesn't.

yaks wont go for peanuts because gm's don't think like the average fan. they understand player value much better than most of you.

If we retain a million of Hemmer's salary (20%) he becomes quite a tradeable asset imo.

If we consider the Rangers rumours, I still like the Hemmer for a solid bottom 6er idea (Dorsett or Pouliot for example)

I dont know why we tend to think that a potential trade would be for Yaks or Hemmer. Maybe the Rangers have their sights on something else.... Just for fun, what would the Rangers give for Eberle?
I am not suggesting it could happen but... We have too much of the same player! In a team where we have Hall, Nuge, Perron and assuming Gagner, Yaks and Hemmer play well, it looks like we have one too many stars in the top 6. And i am sure Eberle would bring a bigger return, he is proven....
What would we need back? Please stay real... Nobody is giving us Ludqvist and Nash.

I cant wait to see what Oilers will do. I am not a real fan of the team but past few years I get excited before each season because I hope they turn into an exciting team to watch. But each season I am dissapointed. I find the games extremely boring and I am dumbfounded because they seem to play worse each year it seems. They need a major shocker of a trade and switch things up. This rebuild isnt clicking at all. I know they need dmen and goalies very bad and also some power type forwards and there are rumors swirling of Flyers, Panthers, Hurricanes etc(pretty much all the other horrendous NHL teams), but what about start off by making a push for Chris Stewart? Seems to be rumors of him being traded always and Blues will have a tough time paying up for him next contract. I think he would be a great fit in Edmonton
