An increasing number of Montreal fans say that the increasing animosity between Subban and management will make it much harder to sign him. If that is the case, does a Montreal/Edmonton deal not make a lot of sense. Perhaps,

Yakupov plus a prospect for Subban.

Remember Galchyuk and Yakupov have already demonstrated solid chemistry between them.

It would make a ton of sense but I think the price for PK would be quite excessive. At this point I'd give it a try, PK is proven and he comes with a truckload of passion.

What do people think EDM would have to give up to get PK?

Yakupov + what?

A prospect (eg Marincin or even Klefbom) or perhaps your 2014 1st.

their 2014 1st could be a 1st overall
that would be 2 1st overalls

yikes
heavy price...I think Edmonton would do a Yaks + high prospect + 2nd/3rd rounder for Subban

I have doubts Subban would even be interested in extending in EDM.

I probably agree. But Montreal is behaving very strangely towards its best player. Edmonton appears to be scapegoating Yakupov when others are far more deserving of criticism.

Not many teams will be able to afford the 8 year upwards of $80m he will be looking for. Clearly Montreal made a huge mistake when Subban held out.

RFA. It's either sit on the bench for the season or play in Europe.

Agree that he might only sign a deal that takes him to UFA and no further though.

I think it's more likely he gets a Karlsson/Pietrangelo type deal ($6.5m longer term).

Yaks is certainly not alone in deserving criticism.

I would put the Canes name in the hat as Lindholm was sent to the Checkers today ,so they are in need of top 6/9 scoring...again!

Please stop with the Miller to Anaheim garbage. He's not that much of an upgrade on Jonas Hiller and Freddie Anderson has been awesome. The Ducks don't need Ryan Miller. They need a top pairing defenseman. Any team want to trade one of those?
- duxcup07

Don't you guys have that Gibson who was lights out for the USA World Jr team. The last thing you guys need is a goalie.

yeah and let's be a little bit real...

Yakupov has big question marks everywhere except among Edmonton fans (and even some of those )

Subban is the last Norris trophy winner.

The value at the moment is not even the same ball park.

That's why you can't trade him now.

His value is pretty unlikely to get lower. Edmonton needs to not panic here.

He was the best 18 year old in the world. He's perfect for a team that can wait for him to become a star. Edmonton can't wait, they have bigger needs, and already have 2 other star wingers, so they are in the unique position of being able to move a 1st overall before his 80th game. AFAIC, they should have trade that pick at the draft in 2012 for players.

I think thats pretty fair maybe EDM option of 2014 or 2015 + a second would probably be needed as EDM wont give up their only good D prospects it would more likely be someone other then those two

I am so confused because if that was the case how come he didn't win the Calder ? I guess the value for Huberdeau would be a lot more then Yaks then ? A lot of you are being stupid with what the return should be for him. If the Rangers where to trade McDonough for him today they would not be a better team. Like at all. The Oilers would certainly be a better team but the Rangers would be taking a giant step backwards. So why would these Gms line up to make deals that make their teams worse? GM's pay a ton for potential that is true but only if the player as demonstrated for more then 50 games that they are a top player in the NHL now with lots of room to grow. Not a guy who showed a flash of what he might be in a 48 game span and is now struggling mightily.

mcdonagh is probably untouchable.

yaks wasn't 18 last year. neither was huberdeau. he's actually a year older than yaks.

and i think buddy meant at the time of the draft.

u try and use his flash as a derogatory term. but he was a first overall that led rookies in goals and assists in his first year. fact.

u deal from positions of strength for positions of weakness. if a gm believes that yaks is a pereniall 30+ goal scorer (which is FAR from ludicrous) and you have multiple quality top 4 dmen, the trade seems to be self explanatory.

id assume it'd be more staal or girardi, but nonetheless. certainly not anyone lesser than that anyway. yaks potential is too high.

and maybe they think in the right situation, their team will be better immediately by moving their 3rd best dman and gaining a kid that can step in and score.

I could see Girardi. But I don't see how he gets moved and just figures it out and starts lighting it up. I don't think he would have any better offensive players in NY to help him get going then he does in EDM, especially with Nash out. The thing I question is that yea he might of led rookies but it wasn't a regular sample size because of the lockout and now he isn't doing well. That would put doubt in GM's minds. Who is to say he wouldn't have cooled right off like he has this year and went on a 15-20 games scoreless drought at the end of the season had it been a full 82? Now I know that is a what if thought but I think that teams just haven't got a large enough sample size of him to give up such assets and him not work out. I also think that by the sounds of what everyone is reporting it would seem like EDM might be the ones more desperate to pull a move then say the Rangers or whoever else is rumored to be involved. I get the feeling the Oil think they need to make a bold move soon to make a statement to the fan base where as the Rangers might have started slow but they still have Henrik and he is picking his game up and can give the Rangers a play off birth on his own where EDM is desperate for the playoffs and doesn't have a go to guy yet to carry them on their back to a play off birth. Could just be me rambling on but meh
