I'd say Emelin is well on his way to becoming a top pairing D-man. As for the rest, I think the cap space freed up by not re-signing Gionta and Markov goes a long way toward signing the offensive help we need. And trading Pleks would also go a long way in that regard.

Seeing how we stack up against St. Louis and San Jose, I couldn't agree more with your assessment. With that in mind, I'd start moving pieces now.

Sign Markov.
Keep Plekanec (3rd line C when we find a real #2...Glachenyuk being #1...and start playing him like it...NOW!!!)
Trade Eller, get a real 2nd line center (probably not in that trade though...but I think Eller plus could get us a D or winger).

Do they call John from down the street to come and lift that heavy gun, and then pull the trigger ?

* he says to himself with a old Montreal Jewish mothers accent *

I was thinking of my buddies mother in Montreal, when we had to get his dehumidifier. She didn't want me to pick it up because it was SO heavy. So, she was calling John to come lift in the car for me.

Yes...were you happy with them making the playoffs to fail miserably in the 1st round last year? The ultimate goal is winning the cup, I don't care if they barely make the playoffs year after year to lose in the 1st (frank)ing round.
- BashCH

i am of the same thinking. the Canadiens, however, are not. they won't trade a key component of the team if they're in PO position.

I know, and they might win a playoff round or 2 every 5 years. But they'll never win the cup with that mentality.

Such a cute old lady, makes me think of her when I watch big Bang. Different size than Wolowtiz's mother, but sounded the same.

Why would you go through all that trouble to get a #2 when you already have a great one in Plek ?
