retires = count
Pronger = no cap

he's been playing very well. if they can get him at a couple of years for reasonable money they should but this may be the chance for him to break the bank with a contender if he plays like this for the rest of the season.
- dt99999

this is true. not sure they can afford him anyway with PK due for a raise.

the Blues seemed to know what they were doing every time they touched the puck. Habs seemed to be freewheeling when they had it. also, the Blues are as aggressive a team i have seen in years. that forecheck is vicious. they played at a different speed/intensity level than Montreal. but even all that said, Montreal hung in. closed the gap with great shot blocking and great goaltending.

PK is being sabotaged in order to keep his salary low.

money is one thing, term is another. this is an older player who came out of nowhere and had a good season out of nowhere. We've seen this a bunch of times where they just can't sustain it.
- dt99999

if DD was producing at the pace he did the year before he hit 60 or even last year, that contract wouldn't be a big deal.

i wouldn't bet against Markov re-signing right now.
- DoubleDown

If they want to give Beaulieu top 4 minutes with PP time, let Markov walk. Otherwise, re-sign him.

Gionta, Murray, Bouillon, Diaz, Leblanc can all walk at season's end, imo.

Use that money to sign a solid top 4 D. Wait for Briere and Desharnais' contract to expire to sign a real top pairing winger (if one is ever available) and then hope like hell that one of McCarron or other picks made in next two years can also develop into a top pairing winger...

I think he's happy in Montreal and will resign at the same price.

Markov and Pleks are not repleacable right now.
- Dgrdnr

Not replaceable for what? The Stanley Cup run we're not going on this year?

Neither Markov nor Pleks are part of the long-term, or even short-term plan. And this team has a core that, recent play notwithstanding, is poised to contend in the next couple of years with the right pieces to compliment them. So why not parlay what remaining value Pleks and Markov have now to start getting some of those pieces?

Assets you can't let walk away for nothing. Even if it's a low round pick, Bergevin needs to get some value for them.

DD is in year 1 of a 4-year deal. you can't hide him in the lineup for 3 years.

Beaulieu top 4 minutes = this team sucking more than the Flyers.

From a value based standpoint, I agree.

But there is no one close to their talent level ready to take over their role.

In a couple of years, Subban-Eller-Gallagher-Galchenyuk-Bournival will not have such affordable salaries.

That is my assessment as well. But I don't watch that many Bulldogs games.
Sort of puts into perspective the odds of Markov re-signing if you ask me...
