Ottawa would never trade Karlsson. He was unbelievably good last night. Very close to top form of his Norris year, perhaps better, on pace to surpass goal and point totals.

Bobby Ryan is very good. Already has 8 goals playing with Turris. If Giroux does not get his game back soon, Giroux for Ryan would be a fair deal.

- spatso

I think everyone knows Giroux is a world class player that is just in a slump. Bobby Ryan is an All-star player having another all-star year. But in no way is Giroux for Ryan a fair trade. Maybe a Turris-Karlsson, but nothing less then another elite player or a combination of future elite players would get that done.

Like maybe I would consider Huberdeau, Gunbrandson and Barkov for Giroux, Voracek and Hagg.

The rebuild started when they traded Richards and Carter. Not one trade or signing Homer has made including those trades has worked out in our favor except for Mason so far. We traded known good players for players we were not sure of. Homer was great from 06-10, but has been awful the past 4 years.
- Jimmygrazz

i would agree with some of it, but i think couts and schenn will turn out to be good players.

There isn't a bigger Ryan advocate on this site. But that trade isn't fair. We expect Giroux to be close to Crosby level when he hits his prime.
Would take more than Ryan.

- Flyersgod

Giroux should be in his prime, and I expect more like Forsberg then Crosby.

sadly, that's what's happened to me. i had almost zero emotion about the end of the game last night. i was mildly annoyed for about 3 minutes. and then went to bed.

That blocker save he made on the 2-1 was unbelievable.

He deserves better.

when is the last time we thought that about a flyers goalie?
- nails

i don't know but i sure feel it now

i felt awful for him after the tying goal, he looked devastated

and also watching him bust into the tunnel in .1 seconds flat as the game ended

i wonder if he yells at them?

Is it time to take the C off Giroux and perhaps sit him for a game or 2? He looks awful out there.
- BiggE

taking the C away from G would be a total over reaction from management. I don't believe that is the way to go. I have no idea what is being done behind the scenes but I would hope they are sitting G down in the film room and showing him film of him at his best. I dont understand the perimeter play and his lack of creativity right now. Maybe stick Jake back with him being they played very well together last year.

Sadly I just don't see this mix getting better. I would just stand pat and let the season play out and move all expiring contracts at the deadline for picks. this team needs an infusion of speed and skill. they are painfully slow. even our 4th line. watching a guy like Malholtra steal the puck and score on a breakaway.......we have someone like Hall who is slow as poop.

No he is not. I thought they overpaid for him by about 2 million on this latest contract but that is what it is.

There is something deeply wrong with Giroux right now. Be it mental, physical, or a combination. He is NOT the same player we have seen in the past, not even close. There is no grit, no creativity, no physicality...nothing. Its as if he is drifting around the outskirts of the game waiting for something to happen.

He is doing nothing to impose himself on the game. To me he looks more like Zherdev than himself.

If he is hurt, sit it out until he gets healthy. If he doesn't want to do that then he has to suck it up and deal with whatever pain he is in, get to the slot, start hitting people, start MAKING plays and get his ass in gear. Otherwise he IS Zherdev but less productive and making a poopload more money.

I watched him all night every time he was on the ice, followed him everywhere when I could see him....it was pathetic. Numerous times he was one on one with a defender he would normally beat like a red headed step child and instead he decides to take a weak shot from 55 feet or make a dumb pass or just simply not do anything.

What the hell happened to him?

- MBFlyerfan

He hasn't been the same player since Jagr left. That was a HUGE mistake Homer made. Jagr was not only a mentor to Giroux, but a linemate he developed really good chemistry with.

Seriously. All this hard work, and he'll still be stuck here as an RFA at the end of the season.

But f'real, felt so bad for him after that tying goal. He deserves so much better than he's getting.

Wrong. Even when Zherdev was skating with his head in the clouds, he could still score goals.

But, maybe the Flyers need to start senfing these guys to sports physcologists, and soon.

Maybe, just maybe, they actually resign a goalie that is performing well under adverse conditions?

You know Bill, I wish they kept jagr around. This young team is not the same without him. The group seemed more happy with him around. Im sure the pressure on these guys is unreal right now. Jagr would have helped alleviate that and take some of the heat.

Let me preface this by saying that I am as big a fan of G as anyone. There is no way that G will ever be in the same conversation as Crosby, Malkin, or Ovechkin. Giroux can be a great player, but not at the level of the 3 I just mentioned.
- Jimmygrazz

I agree. But he's our Crosby, if you will.

The last thing this team needs is to stand pat. You can give these guys 10 years together to develop and it isn't going to get much better. You either need to make moves to get a top line scorer and top defenseman, or you need to sell what you currently have, and that includes also moving some of these young guys for other young guys.

I know Vinny is here for that now, but Jagr is one of the greatest players to play the game. Its just not the same. There was a sense of arrogance with these guys when he was around, like nothing could stop them. That is missing from them now.

If we wait without fixing the D, when our forwards hit their prime years our D will be elderly.

Timonen and Streit won't last a couple more years.
Mezzy might die during a game.
Coburn has the most promise.
Grossman will be what he is but slower.
Schenn is the wildcard.

I just watched the NHL Network top 10 plays and I was amazed. They have fluidity and crisp passing... something this team is definitely missing. Someone wake these guys up! How in god's name did we have the most lethal PP in the league last year but this year its the worst? This team keeps making excuses and doesn't own up to anything. Lets GO!

after the breakout seasons from giroux and jv i thought there was no chance they didn't sign him for 2 more years. ironic they didn't given holmgren's proclivity for signing old guys at the end of the line for way too much money and too many years. the one time he doesn't and it turns out to be a bad move. talk about losing confidence....how much can the gm have after watching this play out?
