With Gagne it has to be a concern about his health keeping teams away.
He was pretty adequate for a 3rd line left wing last season.

Kind if a mystery about him.

Good lord, are people still clinging on to Gagne?

He's probably waiting for a good team to come calling.

I wonder about getting Kulikov from Florida, what it would take?

What makes you think Gagne is the one holding out? Maybe he wants to wait for a team that is in playoff contention and loses a top 9 forward. He will get to heal up and rest up while other guys around him are beat up and slowing down. Could give him a chance at a cup, or at the very least a short window that he can perform well and get a nicer contract next year. The fact he hasn't signed overseas tells me this might actually be the idea.
- youarewrong

If he signed anywhere outside North America, he'd have to go through waivers if anyone in the NHL signed him.

Also, his agent has been publicly saying he's looking for a deal, and nobody's interested...even floated the statement that if he didn't get a NHL offer soon, he'd consider retirement.

I still don't get it, his play last year was more then I expected out of him. Cheap contract, stir things up and maybe he helps the scoring get going. 2 way contract with a physical ? What do you have to lose.

He might want a more significant deal. He said he was willing to take a paycut, but $2.5mm is less than the $3.5mm he was getting.

I'd still much rather use a younger guy than revisit Gagne

For me, personally?

I want to go with youth. I see no need to revisit the past in this regard, because they have players that can fill the role Gagne would be filling. I'd rather get them the experience.

Agreed, if theyre not happy with McGinn bring Cousins up for a couple games. God forbid they add some more talent to the lineup. On D I like the calming influence and pk abilities of Gill, Certainly Gus and Schenn need to play so sit Mez and trade Kimmo to the contender of his choosing. Heck if Douglass Murray was worth a. 2nd last year, they should be able to at least get a 2nd for Timonen.

Exactly -- the Flyers make it seem like there's no other alternative in all of professional hockey but to have Jay Rosehill and now Kris Newbury on the NHL roster, with one of them to possibly dress.

This week is crucial to this season. You win the next two games, you're 6-9-1 and playing .500 hockey after your 0-3 start.

If you're trying to win the games, fine -- believe me, I understand that. I've watched this team for decades, just like a lot of us, and I know they'd rather cut off their arms than wave the white flag.

I admire that about them. I'll never hold that against them.

But if you're trying to win those games, who the hell do you think you're fooling by playing Jay Rosehill or Kris Newbury? If you're trying to win the games, don't insult anybody's intelligence and tell people that carrying two players who can't play in your 13 forwards -- which means one of them has to play -- gives you the best chance to win!

If it was me, I'd go with something like this:

19-28-93
10-40-17/9
24-14-17/9
15-18-12
36

I like it with the current roster. My feeling regarding Gagne is that he is a smart, hard-working player. I emphasize smart. I think he has a good sense of the game, which his something that this team lacks. I would almost say that I'd prefer him in the top six over a few of our current top six due to that alone. Plus he can still play IMO. But that ship has sailed and now we're here.

Well, at the TDL, I'd be moving-or trying like Hell to move-some of the veterans anyhow.

But I do really wonder why nobody is sniffing at Gagne's door. Hurt? Money demands too high? No idea.
