Hey hey don't get upset at me. just ignore him then. don't let his pointless comments get under your skin. he makes absurd comments about our team because he knows the rangers are just flat out below mediocre and have more problems to address than the isles do
- Dedshark

I'm not upset at anyone. Not even Stuart smalley.

I'm upset that this is the defense and goalie we've trusted this rebuild to.

I still think they should of went after hainsey... and ppl are saying they don't want schenn, but as of right now he can be had fairly cheaply and should be targeted. also, I don't know what what ever happened to steve eminger... is he still available?

That's kind of my point. I don't dislike the trade, per se, but I don't see any fortifying anywhere else with this roster.
- potvin05

I don't think this trade was necessarily about fixing the team as opposed to solidifying the top line for years to come. Our fix on defense and goaltending won't likely come until next year.

There's no guarantee Vanek is here next season. He's here this season.

Then the trade was pointless. I personally like the trade, but garths comments alone state he wasn't happy about not winning. yes, the first line is a legit first line, but what's the point if you're not winning with it?

Correct, however I think they felt it was worth the risk to bring him in to sell the package long term.I have no problem with the trade but simply wish we had addressed defense in the offseason. It's very likely Reinhart and perhaps even Pullock join this team next year. All eyes are on 2015, not 2013

Defense wise...I'd try anything within reasonable reach. I'm not talking about mortgaging "everything" for just this year, but if we can add pieces at what are reasonable prices then pull the trigger. If Luke Schenn is available for a low draft pick or a prospect, then why not? He's still young and on a real crappy team.

Garths comments were media fodder. These teams had been talking Moulson for Vanek dating back to the draft, long before the team was underperforming.

What's up with Ville Pokka (sp)? Is he an option in the next 2 years?

Problem is, you have to find a team looking to deal an impact dman this early in the season. Unlikely imo

Dedshark had a point about Schenn. I'd try it if its on the cheap.
...and I would take serviceable at this point, not impactful.

If he decides to play in the US next year he has a legit shot to make the team.

I don't see Schenn being of much use this year(based on cost v. Value) and next year we'll have as many as 5 top end prospects fighting for a spot. Garth is willing to wait for them to grow into their roles while signingstop gap guys

I think being on a poopty team has to have a little to do with Schenn's lackluster play. He's still young, and, if he could play on the 2nd pairing, his contract would be manageable.

Would they even trade within the division?

I don't want to see Nabokov in net at all anymore. I don't care if we bring back the real Potvin in his prime. I'm sick of the complacency around here. I know Vanek is a great player, but, I know I'll probably get screamed at again, but why try to "fix" the one thing on this team that didnt need fixing?

You're right, we're all in now, but as long as we have Hamonic and 5 schleps in front of a stiff, it doesn't matter how many goals we score. It doesn't.

It feels like we've been waiting a while on him. I think he was drafted in 2012? It feels longer. Makes sense when you have to watch this D.

The trade still blows me away. Why when you are talking about Vanek for a while do you settle for brining in PMB and Regin as the offseason moves?

Having an average goalie and defense turns this team into above average/good. Both our goaltending and defense are about as bad as possible.

They could use the cap relief, and if they're not happy with Schenn they'd probably be more than happy to trade him anywhere. Just guessing though, admittedly.

If the price is right I would not mind getting Schenn. Isles have to decide are they going for it or are they willing to wait until next year for the D? The trade for Vanek has me thinking they do not want to just wait.

It seems the Isles miss out on plan A and go right to plan Z.

I have no idea what the plan is and I wonder if the Isles know sometimes. I doubt Vanek will be impressed with the Isles keeping this lousy D this year.
