You need to think about how Holmgren did that. First off Carter and Richards matured which didn't have alot to do with Holmgren making moves. Secondly he went out and bought the most expensive free agent on the market in Briere (who was bought out last year) and traded away draft picks like a madman.

The results of those "win now" moves have left us where we are now, capped out and no farm system. The good news is the cap goes up again next year and the players that are 3-5 years away from contributing will now be 2-4 years away from contributing (assuming they are still Flyers property).

Curious to see Jakub Voracek on the left side; he's a player who almost always enters the offensive zone from the middle-to-right side, so there could be an adjustment period there.

With the Hurricanes as banged up as they are...man. The Flyers have got to take advantage of this. At this point of the season, 13 games in, this is about as healthy as an NHL roster as the Flyers can ice.

And yes...I still believe they can make the playoffs. It won't be easy, at all. But if they have a good week this week...

- AllInForFlyers

Not for certain that Voracek plays the left side. He took about 75% of the line rush reps yesterday on the left, with Simmonds on the right but they also switched sides for some.

It's sad that we're at the point where we can't do both -- I really wish Luke Schenn and Gus were playing and at least looking like they were holding their own, if not showing improvement.

It was painful to see how much more calm the defense looked, for the most part, when Hal Gill was on the ice. The man...I shouldn't even say anything negative about him, because he was helpful on Saturday.

It's brutal that Schenn has played himself out of the lineup. Not just because of who he was traded for. But because we really need a defenseman his age to play well.

- AllInForFlyers

On the flip side NJ hasn't generated much pressure on any team in the last week. Maybe things looked calmer because there was less pressure from the other team on them.

I don't think the Flyers are actually all that eager to trade Grossmann (although there might be a firesale scenario if they continue to struggle where it would make sense). Before they got him, they had a need for a reliable coverage defenseman who blocked a lot of shots and had a bit of a physical edge. Schenn is a bit more physical and younger but less reliable in coverage. You can tell based upon ice time which of the two Berube has more confidence in -- and it's not that Grossmann has been great by any means this season.

My point still stands, i think, that the going rate for decent defensive defensemen is a second round pick.

Ya, I like our farm system. It doesn't have any future superstars, but we have a lot of solid prospects.

Trading Schenn when his value is at its lowest would be a nice way for Holmgren to screw the team one last time on his way out.

How even do you think a Koivu, Zucker, 2nd for Giroux trade would be?

The Flyers have re-assigned Maxim Lemarche to the ECHL...That's two contracts that count against the 50 contract limit playing at the ECHL level.

My guess is they'd want a 1st.

Right now it seems fair, though...but if Giroux gets untracked, he's untouchable

I figured. He's too good a player not to turn it around and couldn't imagine Philly giving up on him... but damn would it be nice to have a true #1C on the Wild

Got it -- hopefully, some different looks, some different angles, even in practice, might open some things up tonight.

Yeah. I'm grasping at anything right now -- they almost gotta win tonight.

He seems to be lacking confidence right now...he's not going to the net and he's been hesitant to shoot...it's getting worrisome, but not time to panic.

As in Marc Staal?

Sign my ass up, but I dont think Couturier has that great of a value currently.

I would assume they were looking at the Ducks. Even though both of us have terrible teams right now its hard to imagine a deal going down between the Rags and Flyers to be honest.

Actually, that might not be the best thing -- I've watched a few Rangers games, and some are wondering if he's truly recovered from that eye injury.

They've been winning lately, so maybe he's playing better. But that's one of those "Buyer Beware" kind of deals...there's other guys who Couturier could be moved for with less risk. And I actually don't mind taking risks.

If you drink the whole jug, I promise you that you will have a nice detox and be glued to the toilet.

Weight loss at its strangest form.
