Get healthy
First and foremost, this team needs to ice a complete roster. Considering the team’s compete level on Saturday I’m not sure if it would have made any difference against the Red Wings, but it would be nice to see each of the organization’s top four left wingers (Hall, Perron, Smyth, Joensuu) back in the lineup. Of course, a healthy blueline and starting goaltender would help as well, but given Justin Schultz’s defensive ineptitude, Anton Belov’s habit for horrible pinches, and Devan Dubnyk’s somewhat rocky start, I’m not sure if having any of those three players in the lineup would be a significant upgrade.
First of all, I absolutely hate the injury excuse.
Second of all, that really isnt the issue with the Oilers in my opinion.

A few trades need to happen. They need a new, seasoned goalie tandem along with a permanent goalie coach that will keep them up to shape. Some of the young guys will need to go. The mediocre Dmen can go to OKC or elsewhere, but some will be good enough to stay as bottom 4 D, possibly.
Followed by a new president, new GM, new coach. Just a new front office period. Good offensive and defensive coaches. Emphasis on skating, shooting, and more PP drills and training.
Working out can help, too. I don't know, but also training to play in a way that reduces the chances for injury, and emphasizing that kind of play.
I probably wrote nothing new, but this may be at least some of the remedy the team seeks. |

Maybe. I fail to see how getting rid of an owners puppet equates to wins. - Jeropotato

Honestly we can't trade Eberle. He may not take the opposition to the boards when he is supposed to, but he does everything else so well. Eberle makes his line mates better. This is why he is the perfect complementary player on a strong 1st line, but not the player that stirs the drink so to speak. - TheWiz
They need to get bigger in the top 6 and a good physical two way dman.... something has to give. |

Good thing they are all playing tonight then but I can't see Lundqvist coming here to play long term and I wouldn't want to give up a bunch for a rental when we aren't even going to make the playoffs. |

Honestly, I am starting to feel bad for you guys. At first it was gleeful snickering but like that annoying guy in a bar that eventually gets his teeth handed to him by an overly enthusiastic pugilist, eventually you just feel bad and beg for it to stop. Your fan base has endured enough.
Anyways, what would the Oil fans think of a swap with another somewhat desperate team like PHI. I was thinking that something like Yaks and (the bad) Schultz for the Schenn bros may make some sense for both teams. You guys would add some grit to your top 6 and 4. PHI would get a soon to be game breaker and some cap relief as B Schenn needs a contract next year. Off base? Close? |

I never said that. I want for Yakupov especially to do well, but I don't know how the fans and media are feeling about him these days. What with being benched and such, which might make him fall out of favor with the coach. |

I dont think that to much should be put onto Eakins and whats hes done so far. Cept for players who arent competing getting tons of ice time. Putting said player at C or said player on the 1st line. Or this system. All these skilled guys dont have a clue on how to play a 200ft game. They all just wanna float and let pucks come to them. They need to be woken up. And if Smyth cant wake them up. No matter how effective he is on ice with points and what not. Then I dont know what is. I think that a trade of one of the skilled kids might wake them up. As its going to happen anyways at some point. Your bottom 6 isnt good enough for your top 6 to just float around hoping for sweet one timers all day. Eberle is a effortless type of player. He will never have the hussle of Hall. But hes gotta dig in and get in the corners as welll. I say that Eakins sits these guys and brings up some guys to show what effort looks like.Or just play them very minutes instead of the default 20 mins they get just because theyre super talented. |

All four of those guys play defense quite well. The same cannot be said for Edmonton's core. The fact is EDM has four players who are extremely talented individuals, but as a group I just see it as too much flash and talent and not enough of the other aspects such as defense and toughness.

2 centers who can also play wing. O'reilly is also playing LW now. Also you cant compare these guys to the guys in EDM. The guys in EDM got automatic 6mil a year contracts. The big 3 in EDM cost more than those Av's players who perform better has hockey players. Av's are in a better position with tons of cap. |

Your trying to compare you 4 massively one deminsional players two the Av's players who are far superior all around players. Im not saying that Hall, Eb's and Nuge wont get better. But the Av's are in a better spot with theyre guys for less money. |
