I'm not even that huge on save percentage though I suppose in a broad use it's 'okay'.
Problem is, compare a team like Boston who dominates in front of their own net, a goalie see's more perimeter shots, so their save percentage can be much higher than say our team where our defensemen are gettng knocked over like yard gnomes and shots take place at a much closer range.

i hear what youre saying but unless you totally dont believe in looking at stats (cappy is that you?!?!) no stat in all of sports is bulletproof

FTR:
Nabakov 2.92 GAA .903 sv pct
Poulin 2.68 GAA .907 sv pct
Poulin would have had our first shutout of the year were it not for Fransy knocking the puck in our own net against Boston. It will be interesting to see how these stats evolve over the season. Bear in mind, Poulin has so far seen Chicago, Boston and Philly. While Philly sucks, the other two are pretty formidable.

I don't think any of them can be totally discounted, but major grains of salt should be taken as well for the very reason I stated. If one teams defense is awful in front of their own net, the save percentage is going to struggle as a result.

I don't expect him to immediately take over the top spot after one strong performance but I do think starting him immediately after that performance is justified to see if he can build on it. Instead you interrupt his momentum and bring in the guy whose been struggling.

No question I would not just give Poulin the top spot. I would have played him again tonight though. Nabby is not the future and I rather see Poulin play in the playoffs if the Isles make it again.

Yes let's play Nabby so when OV takes a shot at his head he can duck again and let it in off his glove.... like he did in Ottawa.
- niteislander

i couldnt believe that when i saw it. Im like i have never seen a goalie Duck when someone took a slap shot at them.

Cappy is a fool. you can thank our player shooting 57th shoots and 5 goals for win in OTT.

Nabby was horrific all game, though his one big save was the last shootout shot that secured the 2 points.
I love Nielsen new SO deke. Can Grabner ask Neilsen to tutor him in breakaways.

Poulin should have gotten the start again. No ifs, ands or buts about it.

if you survey the remaining 29 coaches in league all woudl have rewarded their young goalie with a start

No wonder Capuanos son chose to play baseball instead. Probably couldnt deal with his father annoying the hell out of him as a coach.

Nabokov back in net tonight

Cappy is so damn stubborn when it comes to playing younger players even if they're more successful.

- keaner17

knowing Poulin had a good game against Boston and not wanting to give the real reason (I play vets more so they don't get pissed off) he cited Nabby's career record against the caps. What other excuses will be used to keep the kids from playing games?
