That team better stay competitive because if they ever become the Dead Wings of the late 60's 70's & 80's that made the playoffs twice in a 17 year span, not only will that building be empty, but the economics of that area will eliminate any chance of a new building.

Nabokov back in net tonight

Cappy is so damn stubborn when it comes to playing younger players even if they're more successful.

The way they've both played he should be splitting starts with them. Continually gives these kids mixed signals. Next will be hearing Donovan is sitting so we can give AMAC more ice time. Worst coach for a team that is supposedly trying to develop young players.

I would of liked to see Poulin get rewarded for playing a great game but here is Nabby's stats against Washington...

Eyesonisles ‏@eyesonislesFS
Nabokov is 12-1-3, 2.09, .926 career vs Washington. #isles

So it makes a little more sense now

its known that cappy isnt an advanced stats kinda guy...makes sense. seems like the guy likes coaching without as much information as he can gather.

The record yes but not the save %, maybe not.
None the less, Poulin has to start playing more.

I'm not really a huge believer in falling back on stats against opponents. Considering the turnover in todays NHL, there's probably been less than 10% retention on that team over the last 6 years.
From a goaltending perspective, I'm more interested in sticking with the hot hand.

I think we have like 4 games in 6 nights, so Poulin SHOULD start 2 of them.

I'm not surprised keaner. Nabby is going to have to be brutal for Poulin to have any chance at the #1 spot.

Yes let's play Nabby so when OV takes a shot at his head he can duck again and let it in off his glove.... like he did in Ottawa.

One minute hes saying how the Rangers suck and are wussies the next minute they will win the cup and the Isles are garbage. The Islesoffense is so bad that opposing teams play their backup goalies but the Rangers offense is scary especially with the new system.

I'm not even that huge on save percentage though I suppose in a broad use it's 'okay'.
Problem is, compare a team like Boston who dominates in front of their own net, a goalie see's more perimeter shots, so their save percentage can be much higher than say our team where our defensemen are gettng knocked over like yard gnomes and shots take place at a much closer range.

I don't expect him to immediately take over the top spot after one strong performance but I do think starting him immediately after that performance is justified to see if he can build on it. Instead you interrupt his momentum and bring in the guy whose been struggling.

So wouldnt that indicate that Nabby with that save % is actually playing better and that if we had a defense that didnt get knocked all over the yard gnomes that his save % would be even higher? And a .926 save % is good.

EDIT:

And I agree with you completely... Most stats are trivial.

Poulin needs to play and needs to play more. Cappy is gonna run Nabby into the ground before the Olympic break, then Nabby is gonna play in the Olympics and when he gets back he is gonna have nothing left.

I think it's plausible to say when judging Nabby's sv pctg versus say Mike Quick, there needs to be a curve considered since the quality of shots Nabby see's are typically of a higher quality. My concern is that the types of goals we've been seeing Nabby give up suggest to me more of a slowing in reaction time. He gets beat high glove A LOT

Edit: I do think sv pctg can be a barometer between goaltenders on the same team though

Agreed... Nabby is at the end of his career. He has trouble glove high and controlling rebounds. His reaction time is very concerning, just how much its slowed in the last year.
