Dont disagree...but Mackinnon, Duchene, Stastny, O'Reilly.....someones gotta go and with Stastny's 6.6M hit, he wont get them full value imo. - Colin Dambrauskas
yes but you need to think about it from an asset management POV. the most important thing for COL is to determine who they want to move forward with. once that's established, then you can worry about the return on any trade. and certainly O'Reilly is going to be part of that core group. Stastny is the one who is expendable. and even at that. with him a UFA, there is no reason to trade him, unless the wheels complete fall off there in the next few months, which seems unlikely. |

if anything, leafs will just sign/trade for the likes of Zigomanis / Tim Brent or another player able to fill up the 4th line C and upon return of some roster players returning to the Marlies.
Shawn Matthias might be a possibility, but not sure what Florida would want in return.. - MaximusAurelius
problem isn't their fourth line...they need a number 1 and 2 centre. McClement can't play up any higher than 3 and having JVR or whoever move into that role is stop gap, not a long term solution. |

And again, I completely agree...but what we dont see/hear are whether or not players are happy taking a side role to newer/younger guys...and with that said, O'Reilly may become frustrated with the fact that he wont be used as a top6 center and may request to be moved...or the franchise may further understand that they have 3-4 guys who want to play top 6 center and see one/two of them as potential return on investments.
As you said, likely Stastny...but I wouldnt be surprised if O'Reilly gets moved as he brings back more value than trading Stastny who fits in very nicely as a 2nd/3rd line guy for them. Just the ways I see it. |
