Didn't the coaching staff pretty much cut Schenn's minutes since Game 1 of this year?

I don't feel like this was some slow slide into the press box during the course of 11 games as much as it was the guy was playing from the dog house since pre-season.

FYI, the NHL website has a fantastic stats engine, including tracking every player's stats for each game.

Here's Luke's:

So yeah, it looks like he started the season in the dog house.

How are those exposed young players working out in Colorodo? That 20 year Captain sure is clueless out there...

Same old Flyers logic...Old Man Ed has become the Al Davis of Hockey...I love what he did to put a team here, and all he has done to support it, but it has been 40 years...

So you're comparing mid-round picks and undrated FAs to Landeskog? Man, you really are a black-and-white guy.

You know what though, you're right. Let's waive Giroux and bring up Cousins. He's playing well in the AHl and Giroux isn't. hell, let's put the entire team on waivers and call up the AHL team. In 2 years, they'll have experience and should be Cup favorites.

Colorado has a good mix of young and older players who are doing well. It's a case where everything is meshing well and working out.

The success breeds confidence...the mess that is the Flyers isn't likely to breed confidence.

The fact that BRUNO GERVAIS played well at the end of last season should tell you something about Lauridsen in the same situation. The coach changed his system to protect the D/goalie at all costs.

If you are going to waive Giroux, please call the Leafs - we'll happily give you a 4th rounder instead...

Oh, right. Sarcasm font.

I haven't watched the Flyers games - is the guy just not putting the biscuit in the basket, or does he actually look horrible out there?

That sound you hear is someone (not me) writing an impassioned post about bringing up Jason Akeson.

Ugh..looked a G's stat's...22 Mins a night to get 2 shots per game...I get it posts don't count, nor do missing the net...But there a tons of D men that average better shots per game totals...that hand has to be jacked...

Easier said than done. If you just throw young players to the wolves, you get what the Oilers are dealing with.

Even if you tell a kid, oh, it's not important, a lot of times getting burned will cause a kid to lose his self confidence.

By all means, lets wrap them in bubble wrap and get them a dog from the SPCA to cuddle every night then.

I don't think it's any one thing. I think it's a combination of possibly his hand or his wrists still bothering him.....maybe feels a little snakebitten. He really hasn't had consistent linemates for various reasons.

One stat that doesn't lie is that his shots per game is down to the levels when Carter and Richards were still around.

A bit of both. He's shown amazing flashes of his former self and then hit the post. He will then spend the next 40 minutes skating the perimeter and being non-existent. When he does shoot it doesn't hit the net, and if it's on target it hits the post. Actually infuriating for him I bet.
He still has some great set-ups and it's not his skating. He's lovely out on the ice. And his conditioning seems fine. It's like he forgot how to shoot or how to hit the target when he does (hence all the questions about injuries or if he has even fully recovered).
Our biggest grievance is his long dissapearances on the perimeter. That's a new change I don't like at all...

My issue with that trade is still mainly that they traded the best asset they were willing to part with and failed to acquire what they needed. Yes, they did need young defensemen, but they had three guys who are similar to Schenn in Grossmann, Meszaros and Coburn.

They had a 36 year old Timonen and a soon to be UFA Timonen...they needed a more mobile guy who could move the puck if they were dealing away JvR

- Jsaquella

schenn and coburn play a similar style? yikes...and to think someone actually lets you write for their website...

There's a vast difference between bubble wrapping a guy and going to extensive lengths to protect him and simply being rash and rushing a guy into a horrible situation.

I haven't said boo about the forwards...I am talking about the D who can't move or pass the puck...so glad we got Streit for 4 years to do that for us...The forward issues fall back to the junk pile we throw out there on D...and this all started with a L Schenn discussion the he is who he is, he is not a fast skater, but he is skating after practice to get better...where is the Kimmo discussion that he is not holding and grabbing a practice so he might not do it in a game...

And with Grossman, Schenn, and Coburn, there is your mix of experience with youth to avoid the "overwhelm" you are so afraid of...

Face it, this team has a mix of both old and new, and mixed together it is poop stew...unlike how the Avs have built theirs...

Generally they are defensive defensemen. Coburn is obviously a better skater and far more mobile. But neither player is an exceptional puck mover or offensive threat.

And they pay me, too.

You know what...this just isn't working. Make sure you write an angry letter to Holmgren Berube and Hextall to tell them that they are hurting the team's future Stanley Cup hopes by not throwing in half of an AHL defense for the next 69 games.

Ugh. Getting tired of arguing hypotheticals. You have to bring players along. Last year half the defensive core was hurt and you had Oliver, Gus, Alt and Konan playing. The team wasn't great, and they DIDNT fall to pieces. Even if they had a bad strech, they would be helped through it with a coaching staff, and with bad times come good times to raise their confidence. I'm tired of this Protect everything mentality everyone in America has. EVeryone gets a ribbon.... STOP THE BABYING! In 3-4 seasons when they are NHL players and your in the NHL Playoffs don't you want to know if they can handle adversity or if the collapse under it?

You'd think that with all of this talk about bringing up talent from the Phantoms that the Phantoms are somehow loaded. They are the very definition of "middle of the pack" in their AHL conference.

I guess I see it as setting someone up to succeed or fail...
I do everything I can to make sure everyone on my team has the best opportunity to do a good job. If they fail when I set the deck in their favor then we've got a problem. But if I put them in a crap situation and they struggle? I don't roast their chestnuts the same way either...
