Interesting

Michael DeLuca ‏@1_michaeldeluca now

Just had a second person confirm that Holtby pointed at scoreboard during Simmonds fight and then Emery pointed at it to tell him why (1/2)

My issue with that trade is still mainly that they traded the best asset they were willing to part with and failed to acquire what they needed. Yes, they did need young defensemen, but they had three guys who are similar to Schenn in Grossmann, Meszaros and Coburn.

They had a 36 year old Timonen and a soon to be UFA Timonen...they needed a more mobile guy who could move the puck if they were dealing away JvR

No argument there.

I dont know... I'm not worried about confidence. A few years ago Gus and Bourdon handled it pretty well IMO.
- youarewrong

MAB also had a 2 1/2 AHL seasons under his belt before his full-time callup, and Gus had 1 1/2 with spot duty callups. And so far, Gustafsson has been a healthy scratch in place of guys like Hal Gill, Luke Schenn, and Andrei Meszaros.

Edit: If you want to call up Lauridsen over Schenn, or Alt over Meszaros, I'm fine with it. That's one player. It's when you do half of the defense where you have the players get over-exposed.

Wish I had the link to the article.. but the north eastern states drive the worst MPG vehicles along with California. Do I say, not as I do.

So well that the Flyers traded 2 second rounders, a third rounder and a 4th rounder for Grossmann and the corpse of Pavel Kubina
- Jsaquella

They were making a playoff run. I didn't say they played like seasoned Vets, I said the time didn't hurt thier confidence.

There's a difference between taking a young forward like McGinn and telling him to skate hard to net and look for rebounds and taking a player like Lauridsen and asking him to play 18 minutes a night against NHL competition for a full season with, what, 1 full AHL season under his belt?

- jmatchett383

You mean the same guys(Gus and Oliver) who Bill sang his praise about all summer at thier play at the world tourny? Yup completely agree they would be overwhelmed...

They would be on the roster if not for the contracts we have on the books...

This is a horrible team...we could barely keep pace with the equally pathetic and undermanned Devils, who missed 4 open net shots

So are the Flyers at the same point now that Toronto was with L. Schenn before trading him? Wasn't he healthy scratched, reduced ice time, etc?

It didn't because the team was largely successful. Coming to this team, now...Really easy to see confidence issues creeping in, because of how badly the team is playing. There's no solid vets that they can pair them with, and help them, because the vets are struggling with their own games.

Yes...they were each 1 player on a team of vets in a 2-week tournament that didn't have the best players in the world. You are proposing we compile half of the D with players who have little to no NHL experience and subject them to a full NHL season. You don't see the difference?

So Leafs+ Schenn = bad years
And Leafs - Schenn = good years.

So...wait...nope, had it for a second, lost it.

No, just mean the Leafs went through years of ups and downs with Schenn...the Flyers have dealt with 11 games of poor play and they're already scratching the guy

Didn't the coaching staff pretty much cut Schenn's minutes since Game 1 of this year?

I don't feel like this was some slow slide into the press box during the course of 11 games as much as it was the guy was playing from the dog house since pre-season.

Not when 50% of our Cap on D is under performing (and not really good) and we are probably at the ceiling of what this team will achieve this year, Nope I don't see it...but I would suspect you see a strong playoff run out of this team too...

Take away mason, and you will see how bad this D really is...wait til he goes in a funk...

Bill - if this continues what are your thoughts on the Flyers trading Lecavalier for something? He was free and could bring back some assets.
- LeftCoaster

I'm not Bill - but I seriously doubt Lecavalier gets traded. He's one of our best forwards right now. When he's in the line-up good things happen. So unless the offer is some serious overpayment I doubt he goes anywhere...

That's true enough...still given how badly the rest of the defense has looked, I;d rather see the kid try to play through his funk than drag out the Harold Priestly Gill's of the world

Being the starting points for the nationwide shipping/distribution network might have something to do with that... more registered heavy trucks, light trucks, vans, etc to move freight around.

They might be scratching him for the same reasons, regardless of time spend with the team.

But it could just be for a kick in the ass... maybe Toronto lost faith in him whereas the Flyers are using it for motivation.
