That is a perfectly fine explanation. It was a quick play.

The argument that "no harm, no foul" is debatable --- same old Shannahan question of suspending the injury, not the play.

Just what makes his amazing is that Kadri could have been concussed on the play and there would have been no discipline for the attempt on the original target. I do not think there should be discipline but at least discussion.

There has been plenty of discussion so far...... last night and tonight on this board for starters

to be honest, I see he is about to miss the check and throws his elbow out, it looks like it goes off Sedins shoulder pad and then off of Kadri's noggin

I missed that play last night, I must have been taking a swill
What time of the game was that?

I agree that it may look that way but you really need to see it in full speed... which I do not have. Someone out there must.
- Beatle_john

I am pretty sure if we could cut it frame by frame it would prove more....

It is obvious that Lupul is trying to put a train wreck of a hit on Sedin and that he things Kadri is going to force Sedin to go wider...... Sedin makes a nice play and cuts back inside (in front of Kadri) lupul gets caught way out of position and reaches with his elbow (probably a reaction) and sedin sees in and ducks or trips on the stick and falls forward.....

Most of the time goalies lunge forward onto their bellies and their heads get stuck out in traffic. Like Reimer vs. CAR

Not saying what was done was legal, as he was in the blue paint, but goalies stick their heads out too much when traffic approaches the net, it's just freakin' dangerous.

- AngryWhiteMale

Anderson was in the blue paint. Nichushkin drove to the net hard. Ended up losing his balance and falling ontop of him

And don't kid yourself Leafs get time on CBC because of money its not like their broadcasters are leaf lovers.... When they showed the replay of the Ranger cross check and again after the PP goal... they could have shown the extra 10 seconds and talked about the missed call on Sedin... but didn't because they promote the NHL stars....

Yeah I know, I noted that fact.

Just saying that all too often goalies lunge forward and their head gets caught in all the traffic.

Please, that argument does not get traction anywhere, not even in the Leafs dressing room. There was no kicking action. Any and all replays show that. The play was unfortunate but totally unrelated to the Lupul hit on Kadri.

The league has to start looking at these skate infractions.

1st Karlsson who's an ALL STAR and Cooke who's a meathead.

Now Bolland gets it from Kassian who's a meathead.

Unintentional or not, it shouldn't be happening - unintentional high stick to a guys mouth who's already missing chicklets gets you 4 mins but going in carelessly with the skate and taking the guy out for 1/2 the season is good to go!!!

Great

Pretty much sums up the night.

Doesn't sound like Bolland's going to miss too many games; should we give McKegg a shot?

Sure, but he has to understand that if he doesn't play decent within his first 10 nhl games then Leafs nation will come to the conclusion that he's a bust and needs to be traded to Dallas for a fourth rounder.

Sedin's quote last night was that he saw it coming, knew it was a high elbow and timed his reaction. He, of course, did not know his reaction would have caused the further hit to Kadri.

If you see it in live-motion, add the previous 3 or 4 seconds to it and it is hard to say it was not a premeditated flying elbow.

You forgot to mention Bieksa who has been cut twice. Skates are like razors. They have protective socks .I suggest players use them. I know most Canucks now use them, there is no excuse not to.

I would be concerned more about intent of trying to elbow someones head ,like what happened to Kadri last night than an accidental cut on the back of the leg.

I believe Bolland was wearing the Kevlar. Sportsnet reported that on the post game show. But the skate blade must have made contact below the sock.

Oh, Ok thanks that makes it better

How about make a body check with your feet on the ice - that goes for leaf players / hab players / nuck players etc etc etc.

thank you for the video with the pause.... at the beginning of the eight second lupul elbow is tucked and his shoulder is lined up for the hit... halfway through the eighth second sedin cuts in.... at the end of the eighth second Lupul elbow is out.... Pretty much a reaction to missing his hit that tool place in less than a second so not premeditaded but still looks bad and if he had connected a long suspension for sure.....

Glad to see the west coast media is as biased as the west coasters complain about the east coast media..... I guess the only difference is we don't care or follow the west coast media...

Both medias suck .

You are missing the point of what second the elbow came out. You have to get rid of the thinking that it is ok to throw and elbow at any point.Elbows are meant ot injure. It should be an automatic suspension for any player , anywhere, anyplace.

Philadelphia would make that trade.... the Leafs wouldn't... it would take more to get Gardiner...
- SofaKingBored

The trade:

Two Schenn's, a second rounder for Liles and Gardiner, plus a fourth.

They explained it during the broadcast.

Unfortunate result, but it's a natural motion when committing a hit against the boards.

I laughed when I read CBSSports.com's comments about the elbow:

If it weren't on his own teammate, Lupul might be hearing from the NHL's Department of Player Safety after that high heat. Instead, he merely draws our laughter.
