Not sure how much of an upgrade he is, good tough D...not the quickest but should keep things calm around the net after whistles....Hoping he comes back as good or even better than last year though
Who's gonna sit, I've been tough on Ranger but others think he's doing a stellar job - Garnie
Ranger and probably Gardiner will take turns, I think Ranger is starting to get better, still not as good as I thought he would be by now. |

Actually thought Ranger wasn't half-bad last night.
We were just beaten by a team that wanted it a lot more than we did. - AngryWhiteMale
Actually since I called him out ( too many times and was banned ) his game has picked up. He must be a HB reader |

It was a careless play by Lupul, luckily there was no damage done.
The one thing I found odd about the game was, the refs had no problem calling the hits from behind but missed a blatant hit by Sedin against Ranger that was worse than most of the hits from behind the Leafs got, and seconds later, the other Sedin hit Kadri from behind but not as bad. Ref had a clear view of the Ranger hit.
Probably wouldn't have made a difference but you can't let one go and then call the rest. - LeafMan
VRD nailed Hank with a full speed two hander than was also missed, all in the same 5 minute spell. |

I missed it last night... stupid play for sure... not premeditated he is trying to crush him with the hits and reacts by sticking out his elbow when Sedin gives him the dipsy doo |

Pretty easy schedule coming up,
NJ plays thursday before arriving in TOR for friday.
We have a tough game vs. BOS, but a home 'n home the following weekend vs. BUF so it's not exactly the end of the world. We have the goaltending to weather the storm. |

Frustration, happens all the time. No foul no crime
No worse than the accidental kick that was a non call. As I stated previous, strange another player steps on your stick and it's tripping but you go in and ACCIDENTLY kick a guy with your skate AND put him out for what could be 1/2 the season and it's high 5's all day long for the NUCKS - Garnie
Please, that argument does not get traction anywhere, not even in the Leafs dressing room. There was no kicking action. Any and all replays show that. The play was unfortunate but totally unrelated to the Lupul hit on Kadri. |

Have yet to see anyone claim Ranger has been stellar... He has been getting consistently better and I think has been more than okay the last 4-5 games at least for the most part.... people supporting Ranger said give him a chance to acclimatize to the speed of the NHL game and he seems to be doing so...... Franson has been getting worse since the start of the year and Rielly looks better than him - jribout
ok, I again was a little over the top for the 1st bolded part
the 2nd bolded part, he played a full year in the AHL he's a past NHL player and I would have hope Nonis would have MADE SURE he was acclimatized before the 1 way NMC on his contract.
But yes, he has been getting a little better each game, he just seems to have that 1 or 2 second slow read or something...

Agreed I think he would been able to step in quicker than he has. But he has been getting better and better and confidence is improving, even seen him make a jump into the play couple times when it aas warranted not just risking it. |

Reilly's playing with house money. He doesn't have the burden of expectation that guys like Gardiner and Franson have to contend with. - AngryWhiteMale
However how many people on here were claiming he should go back to junior so we do not ruin his confidence. I say not way to this comment there was a ton of pressure for him to play well so he could stay in the show... and a ton of pressure for him to live up to a top 5 pick.... |

Yeah, over the last two weeks he's slowly been getting it together. If he and Fraser can get into a good fight to be the 6th Dman then it'd be great for the team in general. |

Sedin's quote last night was that he saw it coming, knew it was a high elbow and timed his reaction. He, of course, did not know his reaction would have caused the further hit to Kadri.
If you see it in live-motion, add the previous 3 or 4 seconds to it and it is hard to say it was not a premeditated flying elbow. |

Anderson got kneed in the head - jbold
Most of the time goalies lunge forward onto their bellies and their heads get stuck out in traffic. Like Reimer vs. CAR
Not saying what was done was legal, as he was in the blue paint, but goalies stick their heads out too much when traffic approaches the net, it's just freakin' dangerous. |

That is a perfectly fine explanation. It was a quick play.
The argument that "no harm, no foul" is debatable --- same old Shannahan question of suspending the injury, not the play.
Just what makes his amazing is that Kadri could have been concussed on the play and there would have been no discipline for the attempt on the original target. I do not think there should be discipline but at least discussion. |

I agree that it may look that way but you really need to see it in full speed... which I do not have. Someone out there must.
EDIT: You know, watching it again.... I am not sure I agree with you that it happened after the cut-back. |
