Don't think I saw one of McNabb's shots hit the goalie or the net. He seemed slow to react (ala Butler) and maybe memory serves me wrong but the only thing I liked about Butler's game was he would get physical.

Maybe darcy is the reason, but if McNabb were all that he'd have more time up here to show what he can do.

I've seen a lot of Rochester games. McNabb's shot gets through plenty. He struggled a bit here and there last year and then ended the season on IR with a knee injury. He could use this year to really get his feet back under him anyway. Besides, the Sabres are so bad I'd rather he not get infected by their stink.

Makarov is going to be interesting to keep an eye on. He can be really good, but then be really bad the next game. He needs to get some consistency in his game. If he can, he may be a steal as an undrafted free agent.

I can't wait till we have McNabb and Zadorov in the line-up full time...
Other teams' forwards better keep their heads up... These guys love to lay ppl out!
Ristolainen has a nasty streak in him too
I really like how our defense is shaping up for the future

He's shown steady improvement while continuing to move up levels in the Swedish leagues...
Good looking prospect

Enroth gets 1st shot at replacing Miller, along with Hackett
Lieuwen might get a look if one of them look out of place in the NHL

Ullmark & Makarov might just be the future goaltending tandem for us though

What are your guys feelings on Ehrhoff? Is he headed out? Boatload of picks + prospects could come your way from Edmonton.

It's 50/50. He may go, he may not. I think Miller is gonna go first regardless though. The Hoff can get a nice return but I don't really feel that we absolutely need to trade him at this point. We may in the next few years though with all our young D prospects.

Yeah, and it's probably wishful thinking to think he would go this year for merely picks and prospects. I'd expect something closer to a hockey trade.

It's much less than 50/50. Odds are he's not going anywhere. They've tied themselves up with his contract. There's a pretty hefty cap penalty if he retires before his contract is up, and he is not on this team when he does it.

What if there was a conditional pick attached?

Sabres receive a 2018 1st round pick if Ehrhoff plays beyond the 2017-2018 season?

They wouldn't consider getting it off the books now if they could, with no anchor contracts coming back the other way?

We move Hoff and Leino, it will take our cap down to 23m committed for next
season. With 12 players signed.

I don't think that would work. It would have to be something like a conditional 1st round pick if he doesn't play beyond, or if Edmonton trades him later down the line. Again, the cap penalty to the Sabres is more severe if he retires at all while still under contract and he is not on this team. If Edmonton ends up trading him before his contract is up to, say, Florida, and he says "screw this, I'm done" and goes back to Germany, the Sabres are still the team that gets popped. Somehow, the penalty is less severe if he's still the Sabres' property and does this.

Also, Ehrhoff's play hasn't been so bad that it's worth being eager to get off the books. There are plenty of others to go first. They easily have enough room, especially if Miller goes, to do whatever they damn well please as far as a rebuild is concerned even with Ehrhoff on the books.

Right, that makes sense. I wonder though: is that really a huge consideration in the modern NHL? That's the 2021 Sabres problem, not the 2013 version. I mean, Regier may still be the GM , but is it really that big a thing to worry about? we're talking 2-3 years of 4 mill on the books right? That's not worth an extra 1st down the road?

That makes sense. Just gauging Sabres fans feeling there, as Ehrhoff is a great fit for edmonton.

Regardless of who he plays for, Sabres pay penalty. I actually think it's quite possible he is moved.
