Yeah that didn't quite happen did it? no one helped him. Quite frankly, this isn't the first time a goalie fought another goalie who didn't want to fight and it won't be the last. this team has had ZERO life to them so personally I don't care what Emery did.

I had a much bigger problem with the Flyers' actions (or lack thereof) in the second period.

About the only positive thing I can take from last nights debacle is that if it goes on like this a lot of vets should be willing to waive their NMC/NTCs to go to contenders. This could both free up a lot of cap space and bring in a lot of picks and prospects.

you would think/hope so. who is going to want a lot of these guys? this rebuild needs to start today

I'm still...last night was a game that was just sad.

Sad for the people who paid to watch it, sad for how the players who have been treated well financially by Ed Snider and the Flyers ever since I started watching this team 30-plus years ago just quit while he was in the building.

Sad because the kind of rot on the roster, the lack of skill and talent and will to compete, isn't going to be fixed with one trade or one offseason.

Sad at how good hockey people placed their trust in young players doing what it takes to get better. How did Luke Schenn get slower? How has Brayden Schenn's skating not improved one bit, or Wayne Simmonds' stickhandling?

After a non-playoff season, how do you come back even worse as individual players AND as a team, then quit on your old coach AND your new coach AND your organization? How do you do that?

This organization...even though everyone knows when the last time was they won the Cup, it always stood for more than this.

Players who continue to quit cannot be trusted to have the intestinal fortitude, the courage, to be the ones to turn this around.

I firmly believe that. If anyone trusts any player on this roster not named Steve Mason -- who has put in the work to improve -- or the players who just got here, any disappointment that they deliver shouldn't be a surprise.

Anybody and everybody should be available, except for those few who just got here. Because if you lose last night to the Capitals by a goal or two or three, we get it: You're just a bad team, and you need more talent. And senior management might need to pay the price.

Lose 7-0, at home, while quitting? Nope. Senior management might/should go, but players should be on the way out the door right with them.

Hilarious that Emery punched Holtby in the head about 20 times, and afterwards Holtby was laughing, stayed in between the pipes and proceeded to shutout this pathetic, gutless team.

On the other hand Lecavalier, and Downie each got hit once, Levavalier got his teeth blasted out of his mouth, and Downie left on a stretcher.

TOMATO CANS!

Quote from Max Talbot after last night's Colorado win,"It was fun, exciting," Talbot said. "I liked the atmosphere where even though they came back 2-2 in the third, the bench was just even keel. We just didn't panic and went for it. That's the feeling of a winning team, a team that's confident, a team that plays with a little bit of a spark, and it was a good feeling."

Quote from Downie after last nights game, "where am I?"

This team is so bad, players are willing to fight so they don't have to play in games anymore.

Glad this place has become a dumping ground. What do you expect though after a game like last night.

I wouldn't count on it. The Flyers were bad last year and the reports were that Briere was unwilling to waive his NMC (before the concussion). Briere had a buyout coming and UFA if he didn't waive so Briere helped himself immensely by not waiving. The players this year don't have have the golden parachute option of getting out of Philly so maybe you are right.

Philly is the worst offensive team in the league bar none with 20 goals for. New Jersey is the 3rd worst offensive team with 26 goals for.

I predict a 1-0 snoozefest tonight.

Correct.

And the way things are, it won't matter if it is Homer, Hexy, or the ghost of Art Ross, the Flyers are dealing from a position of weakness. They'll be stripped naked on every potential deal if they deal in desperation. Eat the losses this year, unload what you can at the trade deadline, have a good draft, and deal in the off season.

Sounds like a player who was happy to get out of Philly.

Emory is garbage just like the Flyers. Your blogger is a jerk for defending him. Typical losing culture from Philly, teams, fans, and dumba$$ bloggers.

A couple AM thoughts:

1. These are the kind of loses that coaches are fired for. After that it's a big trade I guess? In my mind, you rip that C off of Giroux sweater and see what the kids made of. If he can't respond or throws a hissy fit...that pretty much tells you where to shove that 8+ mil investment.

2. While I am certainly not letting Paul Holmgren off the hook entirely, is HE the guy that really deserves all the blame? I can't be the only one who posts here that thought the young talent on this team cold COMPETE, if not be a solid playoff contender. I've seen Simmonds, Hartnell, Voracheck, and Giroux all have all star caliber seasons within the last 2 or so years. Couturiere's rookie year had many of us jumping out of our seats! These are the guys Holmgren made moves to be the driving force of our team, and these guys JUST ARE PLAYING LIKE GARBAGE.

3. It's awfully nice of the Leafs/Penguins fans to come hang out during our down seasons, but you're not shaming any of us for liking an organization that you or your dad hates for whatever reason. I feel this blog is full of some fairly competent hockey fans (try posting in an NFL blog...yuck), we realize this sucks and can discuss it objectively for sure. Trolling is legit for kids and 50 year olds that FINALLY got a hang of this Internet thing. I'm sure there are nuances of YOUR teams that it's way more fun to talk about with your friends since your winning.

4. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED LAST NIGT!?

Strip it to the bone -- whatever core you thought you had has been exposed as a team that has far too many quitters on it.

Another Flyers fan makes a logical point, critical of a Flyers player, and in return he's basically called a crying, whiny little puss. This, right here, is the insightful, respectful, and intelligent debate I come here for. Kudos.

I figured. Though there are plenty of people here who assume 100% of Pens fans here never watched or attended a game prior to 2005.

Should I be concerned last night was a wake up call? If there was anytime to turn it around playing a rival after getting shelled is a good time.
Lost alot of respect of Emery one thing to fight a guy who doesn't want to fight even to throw punches before he is even ready. But to keep hitting while he's down...Come on man show some class.

Number one problem with the flyers is that this team has no prospects pushing to make the big team... These guys aren't looking over their shoulder in fear of getting replaced by younger better players. I blame homer for that! He should have fully rebuilt this team after Ritchie and carts were traded instead of offering bad free agent contracts
- PhillaBully

I do agree with this. The carter and Richards trades were the start of a rebuild except in my opnion the defense was and has been built more for the now. they bring Bryz in. etc etc. I just wish they would stick with the rebuild and stop changing directions. I get that the Flyers haven't won since 75. I get that the owner wants to win bad. but they need to pick a direction and stay the course and stop changing gears.
