Matt Read has three times as many PIM as he did Last year in 42 games...and half of his rookie year total - Jsaquella

The other option was probably few minutes on the 4th line, I don't mind the move. - ob18
Close call. The question would be is he good enough to package another forward to help the D. I guess waiting a year isn't the worst thing.

They've been playing this period...last night was rock bottom, without a doubt.
We'll see if they have any backbone if/when New Jersey scores. - AllInForFlyers
watching them is like being on versed compared to some of the best teams in the league...i dunno |

No, keep him. There isn't a D man out there that they could afford like that to help. The cost would probably hurt them more than it would ever help.

all in all, not a bad period.
for the most part they were pretty good at clearing their own zone, something they've struggled at mightily against the Devils in recent years. |

What was the point of asking the question if you were just going to dismiss the answer as being irrelevant in the long term? - Flyers_01
I didn't dismiss anything. The point of asking the question was in response to a post that was made that scratching Schenn wasn't going to help him. I contend that it could.

I think Laughton will be a Flyer. The question is will Couturier or B. Schenn, because those two will have had their shot...and Laughton can have that roster spot. |

both couts and schenn will likely peak w/in the nxt 100-150 gms, so prepare for some pain...or not |

Misunderstanding. My question was Laughton good enough so that the Flyers could package a young forward (B. Schenn who doesn't impress me) for a top 4 puck moving Dman. I certainly would hold all young players unless there was equal value coming back. No panic here. |

Good first period. Limit chances to the opposition. Go to the net, get traffic in front of the Goalie, and get the puck to the net, and get a goal. Interesting concept. |

It's possible, I think the cost will still be too high & hurt them more than help. |

If Flyers are going to trade for any D-man, especially if they trade any of the youngsters is better be for a true #1 Dman. I dont want the JVR for Schenn debacle again.

I'd keep Couturier...I've said it before. But if B. Schenn doesn't look like he can hold this thing down in the middle, then really, what are we waiting for, you know?
You can move Couturier up to 2C and give Laughton his shot at 3C.
We can't keep everybody on a team that looks like this one does, far too often, you know? After last night, every single game should be an audition for every single guy on the freaking roster.
Teams that quit on coaches, quit on their teammates in front of their own fans...these guys should be auditioning every single night simply not to get scratched, in my opinion.

good for berube starting emery tonight, I cannot believe how many took the sissy stance on emery pounding holtby, its hockey and tempers flair...he should have been a man/hockey player and defended himself, I remember when pitkenen got beat up like that he was traded the next day
that was the most exciting thing I saw all year...poor holtby got his a$$ kicked and he didn't want to fight bbboooo hooooo, its friggin hockey
the nhl is becoming sissified |

And when your draft philosophy is BPA, and 7/8 times BPA is a forward.... at some point you have to trade forwards for defensemen. |

I agree wholeheatedly. That's why I like what Berube did for this game. Compete for playing time.

Emery probably would have had tonight's start either way. 2nd game of a back to back, and Mason has been playing a helluva lot. |

Exactly.
Last night was rock bottom. I've never...last night was as bad as it gets. Nobody gets to walk around this team right now calling themselves "the future."
Maybe your future is with another franchise so we can get some different players on this roster, you know?

i agree, but there should be no sacred cows.
but the main thing to remember is that any type of transaction that turns out well for the flyers was made by homer. any that do not were made by the other GM, Oz Mossis. i just learned that today
