plenty of smaller guys have been tough s.o.b.'s ... and plenty of bigger guys can't fight a damn.

it's not all about who is bigger in hockey fights. just like in real life.

- FlyerGuy

That is true to an extent. Lecavalier has a good amount of experience fighting. I'm not sure what Olesky's fighting history is.

If Rinaldo fought John Scott what do you think would happen? And why?

right on....i was thinking the same thing. someone posted before about the richards and carter trades but i was willing to give it some time; right now i don't like what i'm seeing from the returns for those guys

Exactly -- at some point, you have to look not just like a player with potential, or an NHL regular.

At some point, you have to look like a guy who is a difference-maker. A leader through your play, not fighting.

Who went to the net with a purpose last night? Who blocked shots when it was 4-0? Who took a hit to make a play when it was 5-0? Who backchecked when it was 6-0?

Those are the guys I want on the team.

I wasn't sure about that one from the jump and really hindsight is 20/20 but they should have been able to project this season from him.

You <------------------------------------------------> the point.

Mike Tyson - 5' 10", 230lbs.

Holyfield - 6'1", 225lbs.

Larry Holmes - 6'3", 250lbs.

etc. Tyson was always the shortest, and their weight was obviously within a certain range, hence weight class.

So apparently what you'e saying is Tyson should have lost every fight.

- wolfhounds

Hilarious you are comparing boxing to hockey.

I'm sorry guys but this team is really pissing me off these days... I don't mean to take it out on the other posters but when I call the squad out on these moves they made then get screamed at by you guys and see what I said come true it's a (frank)ed up feeling... I find myself getting so aggravated these days and causing more than just simple discussion ... Hope you all understand where I'm coming from ...
- JoeRussomanno

Joe, I truly feel your pain. I've been a fan of this team since the early 70s and this is as heartless a squad as I have EVER seen. The 06-07 and 90-91 teams probably had less talent, but they weren't as heartless as this bunch.

I'm not. I'm comparing the size of fighters and them winning/losing. Still, nice attempt at changing the topic.

Simmons did nothing wrong. Wilson didn't like being checked. SO he starts a fight with a 7-0 lead. They were all crashing the net on the previous series. It's like stealing a base with a 20 run lead in baseball. Next batter is getting hit. It was bush league IMO.
- jstross

Simmonds was running around, hitting everyone on that shift, whether it was late, from the side. Again, I don't care it wasn't dirty or anything, that's hockey, but that is why Wilson fought him.

Chimera was screening Emery on the Powerplay..is that what you are referring too as a "charge"? Okay...

When you guys beat us 8-1, or what..was it two years ago..9-0? 7-0? I don't remember, was that bush league? Keep in mind who was out on that last powerplay..definitely not the regular unit. Are they supposed to stop trying to score goals? Your team certainly looked like they stopped trying to defend them, so what are the Capitals supposed to do..just sit there with the puck? They were also gunning for Ward's first career hat trick.

You want to know what was bush league in this game? I'll let you take a guess.

"I'm the most irresponsible person in the world. The reason I'm like that is because, at 21, you all gave me $50 or $100 million, and I didn't know what to do. I'm from the ghetto. I don't know how to act. One day I'm in a dope house robbing somebody. The next thing I know, 'You're the heavyweight champion of the world.' ... Who am I? What am I? I don't even know who I am. I'm just a dumb child. I'm being abused. I'm being robbed by lawyers. I think I have more money than I do. I'm just a dumb pugnacious fool. I'm just a fool who thinks I'm someone. And you tell me I should be responsible?"

So if Vinny tattooed his face and beat a former super model do you think he would have fared better in the bout?

Absolutely -- once a couple of guys got injured on the 06-07 team, they were EASILY the worst team in the league. It wasn't even close. The roster they had at the end of the season that year was laugh-out-loud funny, with the exception of a couple of guys brought in at the trade deadline in Upshall and Coburn.

This year's team, as critical as I've been, isn't that bad. They've just quit, as soon as the games get a little hard.

That's a far worse sin than just being a bad hockey player.

Fair point. The smaller guy Downie, pounded the bigger guy Volpatti like a nail last night.

Guys are we really gonna debate a fringe activity like fighting? Which really in this day and age is a borderline embarrassment to the sport.

I'd much rather focus on needed roster and front office moves but hey, Jody Shelly has been talked about more than any other player here the last few years.

It understandable, I think we're all either really frustrated, or getting there. We don't have to agree on any of their moves, let alone all of them, to be pissed off about how bad this team is, and how badly they're embarrassing themselves.

I'd say try not to take it personally, but I don't mean to come across as condescending.

Same.... I could care less who wins a damn fight it is completely irrelevant on the scoreboard ... Especially when our team is the laughingstock of the league.
