It was bad enough to see the Flyers get rolled like that last night, now today we have to listen to fans of a franchise of a team that employed the guy who ended Marc Savard's career explain hockey morality?

It's going to be a long, long day.

hey, give them a break! most of them only know three players on the team

I'm thinking it might not hurt to bench Giroux and make sure he gets the message. This perimeter game the Flyers have perfected really is sickening to watch.

We have to fix the problem before it spreads to Vinny and the AHL call ups.

Broke both of his wrists? Sure he didn't do that on a par 4? He does have a history of such.

Pottsie? Hate that non-flyer fans are the only ones getting grief for being immature and contributing nothing to the discussion, when there's plenty of Flyers fans doing their best to hurl lame insults and destroy any chance of a reasoned discussion.

Any chance of Shea Weber has passed. With Jones there now, Poile has his elite 1-2 pairing back. Soonest Weber becomes an option is in a few years when Jones has matured, and the Preds have had the benefit of a few of the less expensive seasons on his contract.

Also, don't know what Philly has to offer. The Preds are littered with decent young 2nd and 3rd liners. They need true top line playmakers.

Amazing you can see the computer screen with those dark red glasses you're wearing... Cyclops would be jealous.

Never said he never made contact with heads. But which one is he targeting heads like you claim? He's not every single one of them except the one on Dano he hits the chest first and if he hits anyone's dome its cause he follows through.

I can't lie. I have no problem with the move. Watching that second periond and seeing how they just laid down, seeing a guy with a pulse was nice. I get the outrage. I seriously do and I have seen goalies engage with other ones who had no interest in doing so and questioning it. In this case, considering the circumstances, lets just say I was happy to see someone care and am more concered with the way they laid down in the second period. that was disturbing to me
- nastyflyergirl

all the people at the game (and most fans as well i suspect) seemed to enjoy it.....a lot

You start with Hartnell...you try and trade him, if you cant he goes on waivers to see if he gets claimed. He has been on these teams as a veteran through all of this. He exudes no leadership, he rides the wave like everyone else, not mention hes sucked for a couple years now.
- Just5

Exactly -- this kind of stuff happens all the time.

Martin Biron got waived, decided to retire. John-Michael Liles got waived, sent down, brought back up.

Hartnell has a no-move clause, which might have made him a little too comfortable. So you do what John Tortorella did with Brad Richards: Healthy scratch.

There are all kinds of ways to deal with guys who aren't performing. You just can't be afraid to exercise your options.

Not much of a chance. Perhaps they will come out with a bit more energy, but it will only be for a short period of time and without much direction. Once, as always, when they fall behind, panic and confusion will set in and the wheels will come off.

This isn't the type of thing a team can suddenly turn on like a light. They have been seemingly rudderless since last year and it's only gotten worse.

The makeup, the character, and the talent of the team needs to be reviewed by a calm unbiased eye and decisions need to be made. I'm hoping there aren't any knee jerk reactions by Homer, it would most likely be even more disastrous for this team in the long run.

- 77rams

He's really has messed up eh? Amazing to think a few years ago this team was a cup contender. Well i'm not underestimating you maybe it's cause I haven't seen them play but i expect tonight they show some heart. How could you not?

Giroux and Voracek makes 2
- JAKEw1234

Makes 2 what? Voracek is plenty good, but not top end enough to land a top 5 defensemen who has 11 years left at an increasingly affordable price tag. And half the Flyers fan base hates Giroux and his zero goals right now. He hasn't been the same since Jagr left, and also wouldn't be the centerpiece of a deal for Weber.

Did you love the fact that Scott Stevens ended people's careers because he targeted their heads?

Get off the horse.

Plenty of people in here willing to engage in a reasonable discussion with me. So I'll handle the idiots as they come.

And the reasonable discussion in the Pens thread right now consists of an easy win against columbus and tonights rematch. Also the injury to chuck kobasew. Really kind of a snooze fest.

No but Voracek makes up a lot of a package for one. The trade theoretical (despite Weber probably not being available) that I keep saying is: Voracek, Couturier, Coburn, and a 1st for Weber and Smith.

I figured. Though there are plenty of people here who assume 100% of Pens fans here never watched or attended a game prior to 2005.

Are we here debating or defending Cooke? But hey, since you opened that can o worms. Cookes hit was cheap and indefensible, but also legal, and Savard did play again after that. And when it comes to concussions, who gets credit for ending the career? The guy who gave him the last one, first major one? Because each prior concussion contributes to the likelihood and severity of subsequent concussions, so to put all the blame on just one seems a bit harsh.

Every team has scumbags on their roster currently, or in the past. Zero exceptions there. So if someone's team having employed a scumbag means they can't talk about ethics, or morality, than 0 people on this site can talk about it.

- schiefer466

it's pro hockey, chuckhead. talking about morality is like handing out speeding tickets at the indy 500. teams/players fight and always will. emery isn't the first or last guy to go after an unwilling partner. i recall tie domi running from brashear to fight matt carle and no suspension was called foe then or now. nw run along and put your pirates gear in storage for the next 20 years

Well if the choice was between fighting or winning, I'd choose winning as well.

But if the choice is between losing without a fight.. or losing with fights... i'm choosing the latter...

- Flyersgod

I had no problem with Downie's fight in the middle of the second period (other than that he got injured). Didn't really see much a point to the brawl in the third period of a 7-0 game. Sure, it felt good for a few minutes, but in the end what did it accomplish? They still suck. They still got blown out and embarrassed. They lost their best player to injury. What message did they send? Do you think that brawl intimidated anyone? Did it make the Flyers feel better about themselves? Is Washington going to be afraid of playing the Flyers again?

How the heck do you let

go without comment, but get mad when someone calls Emery a "turd" and then agrees with what many other Flyers fans are saying, that Emery deserves a suspension?

- Antilles

He's not trolling someone else's forum. He's letting off steam in his own.

Not exactly a subtle distinction.

Flyers have to start looking at the players they've assembled or the environment in which they create for the players. This has been since about around the time of the cup run where they've consistently have had slow starts, not shown up at all, or have had utter collapses when faced w/a little adversity. They've already dumped 2 coaches, and have brought in new players and its gotten worse.

Just pointing out the hypocrisy of a Pens/Devils fan complaining about what Emery did.

I would have loved to have Stevens, but lets not pretend like he wasn't a cheap shot.

Well no, it's not like the indy 500 at all. There's that weird "code" referenced all the time. What emery did was by most estimates in violation of it. Driving really fast is the point of the Indy 500. Someone putting their fender into someones tire and sending them spinning out would be a better analogy. It happens, but it's a Richard move and frowned upon.
