cant help but wonder how much o this mess could have been avoided by letting Lavi go in the offseason - funmaster18
Well we can certainly wonder about that. But he's gone and Berube has made some changes that I think are the right changes to make. The players got their wish, and got a new Coach. How can it be explained that they won't play for this Coach either? A common sense answer leads to where I don't want to go.

I think a lot of issues would have remained but they may have been 2 steps behind instead of 3. Either way there's a steep hill to climb now. |

As fan of a team that has struggled mightily (Avs) the last few years it's easy to see when a team has screwed up chemistry. This team has some real good talent but it's so dis jointed.
And because of that the chemistry is putrid, Please Tell me who are the leaders on this team ? If your leaders are nolonger able to be big time contributors your team really suffers. Kimmo has been a good leader for a long time but he's no more then a 6th D-man @ best now sorry but he's too slow for the game today.
Sorry but as of now the Flyers D is a complete joke, the reason they are lowest scoring team in the NHL is they Can't get the puck out of their own end. And because of that the Forwards really get tired of backing all the time and eventually quit and then is when it gets really bad. And they are there now.
The Flyer fans who suggest getting rid of the old gaurd on"D" are right, that's the place to start. Get some younger and hungrier D-Men ,even average and this team would so much better. Until then sorry guys it not gonna get better. - ice-crazy
I think you make some good points. But if you watched the Washington game, it can definitely get better. Even with the current D core. Claude Giroux is a perimeter player right now. The makeup of the defense is not the cause of that.

Happy Birthday Luke Schenn, there is cake and ice cream in the press box.
- MBFlyerfan
Ohhh, today really is his birthday. That's cold.
Maybe for gifts, he could get a geometry book to learn more about angles and an Evelyn Wood subscription to teach him to read plays quicker. |

I see the problem as taking a step forward, and then taking 2 back. And how many steps back is the Washington game considered? It was a complete crash and burn. |

You act like a GM can script moves and plan out exactly what he's going to do going forward. A team is built by drafting and developing players. Perusing the trade market, and Free Agency, and other avenues. No GM can put a plan in place, because what moves are made going forward, is unknown. And what is available is unknown.
For example, what cogent plan can Holmgren put together to replace Pronger? - MJL
so no GM is responsible? this must be the dopiest thing you've ever posted. how could you have "complete faith" in someone who's ultimately not responsible.
if they wanted a replacement for pronger how about drafting /developing a few significant guys instead of throwing all of your eggs into the basket of 2 aging dman and then deciding to retool the team. or be open to trading schenn/couts when their value was high...or heaven forfend, draft hamilton or maatta.
you've backed yourself into such a corner so let me make it easy for you- you're wrong. homer built this mess and year after year they've had a diff narrative. all of your facts and logic and putative objectivity wilt in the stifling heat of the results. what's their record? is there much different here than last yr other than they look worse? who put this mother(frank)er together?
so yes Virginia, there is this thing called responsibility and it's on the GM....he's the dope that traded JVR for Mook, who's getting scratched last i heard... |

Schenn benched on his birthday? He hasn't been the issue imo, but maybe there's something else going on within the walls of the sanitarium |

Never stated that the GM is not responsible. The only thing dopey here is you trying to put that statement on me, which obviously wasn't made.

You assume incorrectly that drafting Maata or Hamilton automatically replaces Pronger. The Flyers can certainly be criticized for the lack of home grown defenseman. But they've done a lot to rectify that in the recent past. They have a good stable of defensive prospects. And the Flyers have a policy of drafting the best player available regardless of position. A policy I agree with. Drafting is not the only way of building a defense. As we've seen with the quality defense that team's under Holmgren have iced in the past.

You're going off on a completely different tangent then the post you quoted. You aren't even discussing the points I made. I'm not wrong.

I did not state that the GM is not responsible for the product put on the ice. One game scratched does not define a player. |

Nah -- he's just been...not good. Probably could have been scratched after three other games, IIRC. |

So tonight will be the first time in a very long time that I choose not to watch a Flyers game. I'll keep track of the score, but since watching this team has lately only ended up with me being angry I've decided to take a break.
Is anyone else feeling the same or do you guys plan on torturing yourselves once again tonight? |

You'd have to know how he responded after the scratch. And how he responds after this one. There's plenty of mechanisms in place at the NHL level to help a player get better. - MJL
I'm pretty sure the response in Toronto was to trade him. I'm pretty sure he was struggling badly in Toronto when he got traded. |

I plan on subjecting myself to possible torture. Although I can't say that I'm as excited as I am normally for a game. I'm holding out hope that last night was a wake up call and they come out fired up. But they normally have a hard time against NJ.

It's not his attitude, though. The guy gives it his all.
Scratching him doesn't help his game.
And no, I don't know what would help his game at this point.
His enigmatic swings in confidence and performance appear to be continuing. |

Torture for me. Damn it.
I don't do this in any other aspect of my life. I've got a nice career, a nice significant other, a nice life that I'm grateful to have.
But this effing team...I've invested more in this team than anything other than my career and relationship and I haven't been with my girl for as long as I have been a fan of this team.
I just really need to see them win one. Just one. When that happens, I might just ride off into the sunset with pro sports, since I barely watch any others.

I asked what Luke Schenn's response was, not Toronto's. Good players get traded all the time.

Well, I'll answer then:
His stints in the press box didn't do much.
Like I said, it's not his attitude. |

He's still young. He's only 24, and he's in his 6th NHL Season. Defenseman take time. Some defenseman are just breaking into the League at his age. Luke Schenn played great for the Flyers last Season. He is just one of many players who aren't playing well. I'm confident he'll get his game back.

The only Philly championship I've been alive for is the Phillies and I don't even care about baseball. I agree with the sentiment, though. If I ever get to see the Flyers hold up the Cup I'll be content for the rest of my life when it comes to pro sports. |

We seem to be on different frequencies here.
What's the wake-up call?
You can't just tell a guy to quit playing poorly.
You can tell a guy to quit putting in a 50% effort. That ain't Luke.
If you could simply bench a guy until he starts playing up to his potential again, Liles would be back in the top four of Toronto. |
